Wicker Construction Inc. is Hiring a Heavy Equipment Fleet and Shop Manager Near Shreveport, LA

Job Summary:

Primarily responsible for leading and managing the Company’s Fleet of Heavy Equipment, including Equipment Repair and Maintenance Shop with five mechanics. You will lead all activities associated with planning for efficient use of the shop time, staffing with qualified personnel, inventory for all parts and spares, and development and implementation of maintenance program for all vehicular and worksite equipment. You will participate in the evaluation and selection of our investment in capital equipment annually. You assure the reliability and safe preparation and availability of all company equipment designed to comply with OSHA and all other applicable best practice standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leads company’s shop operations including vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures in order to lead to best in class
  • Oversees maintenance and repair of equipment, both in the shop and when required at the project sites.
  • Ensures that all equipment is completely inspected and is calibrated based on the manufacturer’s recommendations or government standard.
  • Recruits, hires and retains the most qualified mechanics to deliver the best possible results.
  • Reviews employee training to ensure an appropriate, certified, skilled mechanic workforce.
  • Ensures the maintenance shop is properly maintained, organized, functional and clean.
  • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance schedule on all equipment.
  • Establishes service schedules on equipment for warranty compliance.
  • Establishes productivity expectations and tracks the production and activity of the mechanic workforce.
  • Manages the inbound and outbound inspection process.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and regional equipment related regulations.
  • Ensures the ready status of all idle equipment.
  • Participates in the equipment evaluation process to determine replacement needs.
  • Develops and maintains files on all equipment for historical data.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with other divisions of the company.
  • Responsible for the overall safety and enforcement of safety rules within the fleet maintenance department including conducting regular safety meetings.
  • Review daily inspections reports and work orders for all equipment and prioritize repairs.
  • Responsible for shop inventories.
  • Have 10 years mechanical experience and skills to assist supervised crew with repairs as needed.
  • Able to review/direct outsourced repairs on site as well as negotiate warranty claims with OEM when necessary.
  • Utilize computerized shop systems including Samsura, and others.
  • Source and negotiate best possible pricing for spares, parts and capital purchase of needed vehicles and equipment.
  • Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment.
  • Provides proactive, positive leadership and assumes ownership of building a best in class safety culture by 1) anticipating problems & providing solutions, 2) sharing knowledge with, and providing training, to all levels of management, field staff, pre-construction, and project teams, 3) creating an environment of learning, mentoring, and empowerment in order to promote employee engagement.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions, and monitors results to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ensures safety & health trainings meet the needs of internal and external (client & regulating entities) requirements, so staff has the safety training to safely perform tasks and jobs.

Management and Other Functions:

  • Participate in all company leadership activities, training programs and employee recognition events.
  • Develop training programs for equipment operators to ensure proper use of equipment.
  • Sell surplus or legacy equipment for highest value possible.
  • Effectively trains, coaches, disciplines and develops employees to achieve and maintain positive working relationships within the maintenance shop.
  • Achieves desired results through effective leadership and appropriate influence while adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Supervises maintenance staff.
  • Reviews, verifies and approves maintenance mechanics time sheets / work orders daily.
  • Obtains and authorizes OT, shift work, or off-hour work assigned to mechanics.
  • Determines methods and course of action to achieve departmental and organizational goals through effective planning and efficient performance of the department.
  • Strives for innovation within the department.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or technical school preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years working as heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Minimum of 3 years working as supervisor or manager of mechanic shop.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in construction or heavy equipment industry.
  • Experience managing staff and third party hired firms.
  • Must be an effective communicator, generating professional written material and delivering effective verbal
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Bilingual English Spanish Strongly Preferred

Machines/Tools/Equipment:

  • Must be able to operate typical office equipment, such as a computer, copier, printer, calculator, etc.
  • Must be able to operate safety equipment, monitoring devices, camera, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • Headquarters Shop and Yard based in Shreveport, LA
  • Significant work in construction equipment yard during all stages, in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform activities requiring use of arms and legs, including climbing ladders/scaffolding, lifting & handling materials, walking & balancing.
  • Must be able to speak & hear detailed information through oral communication.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year based on experience

Expected hours: 50 per week
