Whoop is Hiring a Data Science Manager (Health) Near Boston, MA

As the Data Science Manager for the Health team, you'll manage a talented group of data scientists and research scientists in driving impactful projects crucial to our company's success. Your role will primarily focus on people management, program management, roadmapping, and resource allocation. 

You will play a crucial role in program and dependency management for the Data Science Health team. You will ensure the team’s success in executing complex data science and research projects by coordinating and communicating with stakeholders. Your expertise in program management will be essential in orchestrating the various components of our projects, including data collection, research and development, and model deployment. Additionally, you will proactively identify and manage dependencies across projects, mitigating risks and ensuring seamless coordination between teams. By effectively managing programs and dependencies, you will contribute to the overall success of our initiatives and drive positive outcomes for our business and members.

On the people management side, you will manage and mentor a team of data scientists and research scientists, provide regular performance feedback, and ensure professional development and growth. You will work to foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, psychological safety, and continuous learning. You are responsible for promoting a positive work environment where all team members feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • People Management: Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists and research scientists. Provide guidance on career growth, skill development, and performance improvement.
  • Program Management: Oversee the execution of multiple data science projects within the Data Science Health Team. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize resource allocation to maximize team efficiency and project outcomes. Coordinate with other departments to secure necessary resources and support for team initiatives.
  • Roadmapping: Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and maintain a comprehensive roadmap for the Health Team's data science initiatives. Ensure alignment with company objectives and market trends.
  • Dependency Management: Identify and mitigate dependencies across projects to minimize risks and ensure smooth execution. Proactively communicate with stakeholders to manage expectations and resolve conflicts.
  • Team Support: Act as a supportive leader, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture. Provide guidance and assistance to overcome challenges and achieve team goals.
  • Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for communicating project status, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholders. Facilitate effective communication within the team to ensure clarity and alignment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Proven experience (5 years) managing data science teams or similar technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of data science methodologies, tools, and techniques, with the ability to provide high-level technical guidance.
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills, with a track record of developing and motivating individuals to achieve their full potential.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize initiatives, allocate resources effectively, and drive results in line with business objectives.
  • Experience in the healthcare or wearable device industry is a plus.
