We are currently seeking an entry-level Traffic Engineer to join our growing Transportation Practice in our Virginia Beach, VA office. Our traffic team offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects such as adaptive signal systems, innovative intersections and interchanges, TSMO/ATMS, managed lanes, and complete street projects that improve mobility for all transportation modes. Responsibilities:

Our Traffic Department works on high-profile and complex projects for state and local departments of transportation throughout North America with a concentration on the eastern US. Our traffic work is challenging, interesting, and in many cases, on the leading edge of traffic engineering applications in the industry. Our entry level traffic engineers gain valuable experience performing a wide variety of analysis, modeling, design, and planning for multimodal transportation projects. Assignments can include: traffic safety/operations studies; development or application of Synchro, SimTraffic, TransModeler, VISSIM, and VISUM models; and design of traffic control devices (traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting); work zone traffic control; ITS and CAV projects. Project assignments can range from small-scale intersection improvements to complex interchange and corridor projects, as well as innovative multimodal transportation plans. 

Position may include working at client site(s) and infrequent travel.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree required
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • 0-5 years of progressive experience in traffic and/or ITS engineering
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual and Highway Safety Manual
  • Familiarity working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Exposure to, or experience, with any of the following:
    • HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic
    • TransModeler, VISSIM, and/or VISUM
    • Design of traffic control devices (traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting) and work zone traffic control
    • ITS and CAV projects
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Exceptional communication, technical writing and organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time accordingly.
  • Experience working with VDOT preferred
