We are looking for Construction Technicians in West Virginia that are familiar with WVDOH specifications and standards, and who possess WVDOH materials certifications in Asphalt, Soils, and Concrete.

Responsibilities:

The Construction Technician is responsible for materials testing and ensures compliance with WVDOH specifications, industry standards, documenting the proper use of materials like soil, concrete, reinforcing steel, asphalt, and aggregate on construction projects. 

Testing and Inspection performed on projects that may include but are not limited to:

  • Resurfacing
  • Slide repairs
  • Bridge and roadway construction
  • Preparing daily reports on work accomplished by Contractor;
  • Performing materials testing and maintaining testing logs;
  • Communicating effectively with the all parties involved in the project, including the Owner and Owner's operational and field staff on a regular basis;
  • Keeping all parties apprised of field conditions and maintaining active communications and excellent rapport with the Owner and the entire project team throughout the construction process

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School diploma or State Equivalency Certificate
  • WVDOH Materials Certification in Asphalt Field - Compaction, and/or Soil - Aggregate Compaction and Portland Cement Concrete certification required
  • Basic computer skills (Word & Excel) required
  • Must be flexible and able to work in a team environment and/or independently
  • Proven work ethic and willingness to learn and complete training provided
  • Must be willing to work nights and overtime, when required by the project assignment. Daily travel should be expected. Overnight travel a possibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in a field related to engineering, engineering technology, construction management or other related advanced degree preferred and highly desired
  • Certified as, or possess the qualifications to certify as, a WVTRET Level (I – V) preferred.
  • Certification levels are dependent on years of experience, education, and certifications held in conjunction with the WV Transportation Engineering Technician (WVTRET) Certification approved by the WVDOH
  • West Virginia Division of Highway (WVDOH) experience preferred
  • Proximity – Potential for hiring multiple positions in Central, Northern, and Southern West Virginia
