Looking for an energetic, creative, professional Activity Director to engage our wonderful residents here at White Oak of Spartanburg. Previous experience in Activities in a long term care setting is preferred. A huge heart, patience, and fantastic socialization skills is a requirement. PURPOSE: The Activity Director shall be responsible for developing and maintaining a program of activities designed to promote the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident, based on a comprehensive assessment of each residents individual needs, interests and abilities according to his/her previous lifestyle. The Activity Director shall be responsible for the quality and timeliness of all recordkeeping and medical record documentation according to Federal and State regulations and White Oak Management, Inc. policies

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Activity Director shall be responsible for the overall operation of the Activity Department according to Federal and State regulations and White Oak Management policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have an educational background sufficient to execute a quality program of activities. Must be of good moral character and in good mental and physical condition. Must have tact, patience, empathy, understanding and a willingness to work with residents regardless of their current level of functioning. Must demonstrate leadership ability, good communication skills and sound management techniques. Must have an understanding of the physiological changes and resulting needs of the aging population.

In addition, the Activity Director must be a qualified professional according to Section 483.24 (c)(2) in the current Federal regulations (Tag F680).

REQUIRED DUTIES: Assists in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and directing activity programs in accordance with all state, federal, and facility standards. Evaluates and maintains activity documentation and record-keeping. Reports all incidents/accidents immediately; reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions/equipment immediately. Must be alert to all residents changes in condition. Utilizes community resources.

DUTIES:

  • Create an environment that is conducive to the meeting of social, creative, intellectual, physical, spiritual and emotional needs of resident.
  • Assess each resident within 14 days of admission and prior to the initial Plan of Care meeting to determine background and programming needs.
  • Contact outside sources for speakers, entertainments, parties, etc.
  • Maintain a resource file.
  • Design, post and maintain attractive, timely bulletin boards and calendars of scheduled activities.
  • Provide 1:1 activities regularly to those who are unable or unwilling to participate in scheduled activities.
  • Attend, and contribute to, resident Plan of Care conferences and other staff meetings.
  • Conduct and/or supervise all activities provided, monitoring and evaluating effectiveness of assistants, if any, in carrying out their duties.
  • Keep accurate attendance and participation records of each activity and evaluate the program for effectiveness and degree of resident involvement regularly. Document accurately and in a timely manner, progress made by residents assigned, keeping all documentation current.
  • Provide opportunities for residents to participate in activities in the surrounding community.
  • Coordinate programming with other services.
  • Maintain work area, equipment and supplies, including inventorying and ordering necessary materials for carrying out the program within budget.
  • Participate in budgetary planning for the program and record all financial transactions accurately.
  • Promote and maintain good public relations through newspaper, radio, television, and a facility newsletter.
  • Plan, recruit, train, schedule and maintain an active volunteer program.
  • Provide and participate in on-going education and in-service training for the department and general staff.
  • Prepare and submit reports as directed by the Administrator or Activity Consultant, including monthly reports to the Administrator and responses to Consultant reports and memos.
  • Conduct weekly department meetings, with minutes reviewed and signed by all Activity staff, for promoting good employee relations.
  • Network with other Activity personnel through active participation in professional organizations, read journals and publications and keep up with new developments, regulations and program ideas.
