Registered Nurse

PRIMARY FUNCTION

RNs are member of a primary care team responsible for the care and treatment of patients in a medical office by assisting medical providers utilizing both assessment and technical skills. RNs ensure efficient patient flow in rooming/triaging patients, completing orders and answering patient questions, often acting as a liaison on behalf of our patients to provide high quality healthcare.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES

  • Maintains records of vital statistics and other pertinent patient data including medical and social histories.
  • Prepares patients for and assists with examinations.
  • Conducts specified laboratory tests.
  • Collects lab specimens, including blood, urine, stool, sputum, mucous, and skin sources.
  • Administers injections and medications, dresses wounds and incisions, interprets physicians’ instructions to patients, assists with emergency and minor surgery, and performs related tasks as directed.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment, and maintains stock of supplies and medications.
  • Records and develops electrocardiograms.
  • Relays messages to providers, assist providers with prescription requests, phones in prescriptions to the appropriate pharmacy once ordered and instructed to by a provider.
  • Other duties within the scope of practices as assigned by the provider and/or supervisor.
  • Employees are responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of their role in the protocols listed below, essential to the completion of daily medical back office responsibilities. Additionally, employees are responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of the remaining medical back office protocols, specific to less frequent medical back office workflows, as found on the intranet. All protocols are updated periodically and employees are expected to remain current on any updates.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
Completion of an accredited nursing program
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum 1 year medical office experience preferred.
Required License
Current Kentucky Nursing License
Basic Life Support Certification
Qualifications
Successful applicants will be mature and well organized with pleasant personality and speaking voice. Knowledge of medical office procedures, basic computer skills, and patient flow in a primary care setting is preferred. Position requires skills in verbal and written communication, multi-tasking as well as proficiency in time management and organizational skills. Preference will be given to candidates with previous medical office experience. Employee is responsible for maintaining requirements of certification and providing evidence of this to the organization as requested.

Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of practice through reading and in-services. This is especially important in the areas of keeping current with medical guidelines for vital signs, medication administration updates including vaccine administration schedules and techniques. Obeys appropriate dress code as specified in Employee Handbook. Provide superior customer service to all patients, external customers (office staff of other offices, hospital, community agencies, etc.), and co-workers. Serves as an ambassador of the White House Clinics in all conversations and interactions with these parties.

Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Mission and Vision and Values of the organization. Maintains clinic standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience. Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
Compliance
Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards. Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information. Adheres to professional standards, clinic policies and procedures (OSHA, HIPAA, Standing Orders, etc.), federal, state, and local requirements, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), etc. Cooperates fully with all aspects of Corporate Compliance Plan and Standards of Conduct. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Accountable to the Team Leader and Service Line Manager. Responsible for keeping the Team Leader and Service Line Manager informed of office activities and problems that arise.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting, bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to performing phlebotomy, give injections, administer medications, operate diagnostic equipment, keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment as necessary. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally. Requires knowledge and usage of proper body mechanics in assisting patients with transferring positions (example transfer from chair to bed, etc.)
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and the public. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Occasional evening or weekend work. Work may be stressful at times. As a clinical employee exposure to any contagion is possible, knowledge and use of PPE is required as standard precaution.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Regular travel is not a requirement for this position. Employees may be requested to provide coverage for another clinic on occasion.
SALARY
$23 - $30.15
EVALUATION
Evaluated annually by the Team Leader or Service Line Manager with input from providers and support staff as appropriate.
