 HOURS:Varied - up to 25 hours per week. Weekend and evening availability

About the Role

This is a part-time, hourly position reporting directly to the Director of Facility Operations at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. 

The Security Officer shall be responsible for the general security of buildings and grounds. Provides escort services and other basic public assistance services as needed and performs routine security and public safety patrol duties within assigned areas. Remains alert to emergencies and provides first-line response, emergency management and/or referral if required.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or equivalent required plus any Security/Law Enforcement experience preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Good working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment and enforcement procedures.
3. Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and the public, to understand and follow standard operating procedures. Prepare investigative reports and complete necessary paperwork.
5. Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance.
6. To make independent and good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedures.
7. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
8. Skill in performing building security and lock procedures.
9. Skill in providing protection services to individuals in Center.
10. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service oriented.
11. Must be friendly, approachable, and courteous at all times to staff, volunteers and guests.
12. Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures.
13. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
14. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
15. Ability to successfully complete a Pennsylvania State Police Clearance, a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance obtained through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and a Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Record Information obtained by submitting a full set of fingerprints to the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent for submission to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
