The Exercise Specialist II is responsible for providing a safe and effective exercise environment for facility users by supervising individual exercise programs, educating the individuals who are exercising, and establishing a personalized program of exercise for each user.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, health/wellness, fitness, recreation or a related field.
  • Certification in AED/CPR.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of One (1) year experience in the medical fitness or health/wellness industry preferred.
  • Certification from a NCCA-accredited fitness organization, such as ACSM, ACE, NSCA, NASM, etc. preferred

  • Provides supervision of the exercise and fitness areas of the facility, including assisting users with their exercise and fitness program.
  • Evaluates each user’s fitness needs and provides the appropriate exercise program for meeting those needs, including providing personal instruction if necessary.
  • Connects users to other users through ongoing contact with the individual and the promotion of the facility’s activities.
  • Conducts new user fitness assessments and/or orientation in accordance with facility standards.
  • Provides fitness floor supervision, including connecting with each user on the fitness floor.
  • Creates personalized exercise/fitness programs for users including providing persona; coaching and education of each individual.
  • Ensures that all exercise areas and equipment are in safe and effective working condition, including a level of cleanliness that is maintained to facility standards.
  • Assists with any required job activities of the department, as may be needed, so as to ensure users are always served in accordance with the facility’s overall service philosophy.
  • Conduct oneself at all times in a manner of professionalism that aligns with the values, philosophies, and standards of the facility.
  • Responds to all emergency situations according to facility policy and procedures.
  • Maintains established department and hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environment, infection and hazardous material control.
  • Directly supervises all interns and volunteers in absence of fitness manager.
  • Assumes responsibility by ensuring continued professional growth of self, by attending formal and/or informal educational/professional activities.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows correct chain of command in handling challenges and issues, including crisis situations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well-coordinated work effort and to effectively meet work schedules including an ability to integrate multiple factors which may have an impact on patient care.
  • Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the Department and Service Line hired.
