Operates equipment including, but not limited to, backhoes, cranes, excavators for use in foundations and pipe laying by performing the following duties: Duties: Fastens attachments to equipment with clevis or wedge pin hitches. Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to equipment to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment. Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut. Operates the backhoe/excavator in a smooth control manner. Dig pipe trenches and structure excavations by removing earth and properly sloping. the sides of the excavations to protect employees from cave-in Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment. Other duties as assigned. Crane operators must be able to read the load charts and figure the proper configuration of the crane to safely make the required lift. Written exam required. Crane operator must be certified. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
