Collections Operator I-V

Maintains and repairs water and wastewater infrastructure. Manages safety at construction sites, including directing traffic. Assists with CCTV operations and operates heavy equipment. Responds to emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Assists with repairing, constructing, and maintaining lift stations pumps, controls, and generators. Places barricades, safety signs, and directs traffic at maintenance sites. Performs preventative maintenance work.
  • Removes stoppages and clears waste from wastewater infrastructure. Assists the CCTV Specialist. Responds to public inquiries and requests for line clearance.
  • After completing collection system repairs, mixes, smooths, and finishes concrete. Breaks asphalt, levels earth, and backfills trenches.
  • Serves as first responder during emergencies by repairing and maintaining lift station pumps, controls, generators, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems.
  • Periodically executes proper and safe confined space entry with the use of gas meters, harnesses, or ladders into confined spaces, including manholes and plant areas.
  • Operates heavy equipment, power tools, gasoline engines, and hand tools.
  • Assists with proper trench safety procedures such as placement of shores and trenching techniques.
  • Performs related work as required.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Collections Operator I-II This position does not directly supervise any employees.
  • Collections III may directly supervisor Collections Operators I-II
  • Collections IV may directly supervisor Collections Operators I-III
  • Collections V may directly supervisor Collection Operators I-IV

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and progressively responsible experience in the operation, maintenance, and construction of collection systems; or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • 3 (three) years
  • Collections Operator V
  • 5 (five) years

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Collections Operator I: Must obtain a Class “D” Wastewater Certificate within one (1) year of employment; Must have or obtain within one (1) year of employment and maintain a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
  • Collections Operator II: Wastewater Operator License, Class D, or Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with Tanker endorsement and the ability to obtain the other within one (1) year of employment.
  • Collections Operator III: Wastewater Operator License, Class D, and Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with Tanker endorsement
  • Collections Operator IV: Wastewater Operator License, Class C, and Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with Tanker endorsement
  • Collections Operator V: Wastewater Operator License, Class B, and Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with Tanker endorsement.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
