Weyerhaeuser is Hiring a Raw Materials Manager Near Vanceboro, NC

This position is a key part of the Southern Area Wood Products Raw Material Team. The position reports to the North Carolina (NC) Area Raw Material Manager with a dotted line relationship to the New Bern Mill Manager.This position is responsible for leading the raw material function to support the success of the mill. The position is accountable for all raw material log purchases and sales, plus mill residual sales and flows. The role will require working cooperatively with other Southern area Raw Material Managers to maximize Wood Products margins.
Key FunctionsLead the development and execution of a sustainable raw material sourcing plan for the mill. The sourcing plans will be developed in conjunction with Wood Products Raw Material Strategies.The position will be a key working member and leader in the NC Area Raw Material Team, and a key member of the New Bern Mill Management Team.
The position will require knowledge of all raw material sources and suppliers - fee, non-fee and OSP. The role will also require understanding of the mill’s production processes and products (customers) plus the key raw material attributes which impact mill margins.
The role will be accountable to develop and manage the raw material sources and log inventory to maximize mill margins. This position is also responsible for the marketing, transportation, and procurement of residual products. Residual product marketing and transportation must be executed in a manner that maximizes return to the facilities, assures the integrity of facility production schedules, and aligns with overall regional procurement and marketing strategies.
This position is accountable for an entrepreneurial approach to understanding market options including emerging markets and capturing associated opportunities to generate incremental margin.
The successful candidate will have experience in utilizing skills including situational management, coaching, counseling, facilitating, performance appraisal and development, team building and time management skills as well as teaching/developing technical skills of the team members.

  • MS or BS in Forestry or BS/BA in a related field and at least 5 years equivalent job experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence or experience in all procurement functional areas is expected:
  • Safety leader and role model

  • Knowledge of key raw material components which impact mill margins
  • Stumpage appraisal and purchases
  • Negotiate stumpage and vendor wood (OSP) purchases
  • Valuation of third-party products
  • Timber cruising and cruise analysis

  • Logging knowledge and cost analysis
  • Financial analysis skills
  • Basic manufacturing knowledge
  • Demonstrated teaming and leadership skills

  • Development, replication and execution of south-wide procurement best practices
  • Accountable for maximizing the cash contribution of mill residual product lines
  • Marketing and transportation of residual products from the mill
  • Procurement of boiler fuel for the mill on an as needed basis
  • Provide and manage contract services at all facilities as needed to meet market commitments and support mill production schedules
  • Be point of contact with customers in regards to volumes, delivery schedule and change events
  • Development, replication and execution of marketing best practices
  • Ability to lead and or work with a diverse team of people
  • Ability to successfully lead initiatives that maximize wood products and shareholder value
  • Ability to work across organizational/functional boundaries effectively
  • Excellent communication, time management and selling/persuasion skills
  • Excellent computer skills with ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office software as well as internal systems
Our Investment in You: What We Offer Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $94,977 to $142,000 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with paid vacation for up to 3 weeks to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 hours along with paid parental leave for all full-time employees
