WETA - PBS NewsHour is Hiring a SRL Social Media Specialist Near Washington, DC

SRL Social Media Specialist
Part-time (up to 24 hours/week), Funded through June 2023
Reports to: Digital Producer
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly skilled and creative social media specialist to help manage and grow our social media platforms as our team undertakes large-scale content initiatives. In this role, you’ll be responsible for helping to develop and implement our social media strategy to increase our online presence. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about finding audiences on social media and skilled at understanding how to track KPIs and other metrics. Candidates must be highly organized with experience in project management. The social media specialist will work closely with SRL’s digital producer, communications manager and senior director.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
In your first 90 days, you will solidify a strategy content plan with SRL’s digital producer for all the department’s digital platforms.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You will quickly adapt to working in a remote environment and seamlessly use different digital communication tools to connect with colleagues across the country. You understand the importance of working collaboratively to achieve a desired goal and will familiarize yourself with our mission, work, educational resources and survey the entire SRL team to learn our goals for audience development on social media.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • A background in various social media platforms, best practices and content creation is essential.
  • Understanding of SEO, web traffic metrics and social media KPIs.
  • Familiarity with web design and publishing.
  • Excellent multitasking skills.
  • Impeccable writing skills.
  • Interest in working with an innovative team and the confidence, talent and skills to contribute in meaningful ways, big and small.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation, and time management skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in an education department that consistently works with leaders and producers in a fast-paced newsroom setting.
  • College degree in film, journalism, communication, or related field; minimum 2 years’ experience producing social media content; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
