Position: Officer, Foundation and Government Development
Full-Time, Regular
Reports to: Director, Foundation and Government Development
We’re looking to hire an Officer for our Foundation and Government Development to serve as a frontline fundraiser and the principal deputy to the Director, National Foundation and Government Development. In the role you will be researching and pursuing new grant funding along with managing a portfolio of existing grants and foundation funders.
In an average week, you can expect to:
  • Manage a portfolio of foundation funders; responsible for tasks related to outreach, proposals, and ongoing stewardship including 1:1 mtgs with funders when needed
  • Conduct prospect research for new funding opportunities; write and distribute written prospect briefings and maintain prospect tracking grids.
  • Draft letters, LOIs and presentation materials for Ken Burns/Florentine Films pipeline, the productions of Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Ken Burns’ legacy projects and other one-off projects as needed.
  • Manage grant agreement approval tasks for all national productions’ grants, including TBAS. May include logging agreements, securing approval of terms from program, finance and legal departments (including writing cover memos to legal that flag issues), and ensuring agreement is returned to donor promptly.
What success looks like:
  • After 60 days, you will understand the three major business units and our FGD priorities for fundraising within each business unit.
  • After 120 days, you will be able to create research briefings and write a Letter of Inquiry or conduct a “pitch” meeting with a funder on at least one program with the help of the Director and Vice President.
You must have:
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide variety of people, to include WETA project staff and outside producers, funders, and other contacts, using diplomacy, tact and discretion. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with people at all professional levels.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning and time management skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
You should have:
  • College degree in liberal arts, communications, finance, accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of non-profit experience, and familiarity with foundation and government fundraising.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
