Director, Finance and Planning
Full-Time, Regular
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
We’re looking to hire a Director, Finance and Planning for our Finance department. The Director, Finance and Planning will lead the financial planning and analysis efforts of WETA and NewsHour Productions (NHP). Plan, coordinate and prepare the annual operating and capital budgets for WETA and NHP. Develop tools, reports and analysis that enable departments to manage their budgets effectively provide effective staff management. Effective supervision of staff.
In an average week, you can expect to:
  • Lead the financial planning and analysis efforts of WETA and NewsHour Productions (NHP).
  • Prepare periodic financial analysis, providing detailed explanations behind variances of actuals versus budget and forecast.
  • Plan, coordinate and prepare the annual operating and capital budgets and quarterly forecasts for WETA and NHP.
  • Develop tools, reports and analysis that enable departments to manage their budgets effectively.
  • Provide mentoring and professional development guidance to financial analyst that aligns with departmental goals and objectives, create performance goals, track and communicate progress.
  • Support the CFO in key strategic initiatives of the organization.
What success looks like:
  • After 60 days you will have learned about the business lines and corresponding contacts at WETA and NHP. Additionally, you will understand the sources of revenue and purposes of expenses and structure of the chart string. Lastly, and will become functional in Adaptive.
  • After 120 days you will have worked with each budget manager to prepare forecasts and variance analysis and understand the cause of variance and if it is a permanent variance or caused by timing. Additionally, you will lead the monthly meetings with budget managers to review the financials in detail. Lastly, you will have mastered Adaptive.
You must have:
  • Proficiency with accounting, reporting and budgeting software: Preferred – Great Plains (accounting), Adaptive Planning (reports and budget). Adept with technology and software. Advanced analytical skills and proficiency with Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, lead, and manage staff and their work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures. An enthusiastic team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and handle volume with close attention to detail, outstanding numerical accuracy and meticulous follow-through. Commitment to continuous process improvement.
You should have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience with complex budgeting, non-profit accounting, project costing, indirect cost rates, and federal grant reporting and compliance.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
