POSITION TITLE: Job Coordinator 

LOCATION: Westwood Public Schools Transition Program

YEAR: 2022 - 2023 school year

FTE: .5 (approx. 17.5 hours per 5 day week)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Job Coordinator’s function is to help Westwood Public Schools’ students with disabilities gain and maintain paid employment or unpaid internships in integrated business settings, in collaboration with the Special Education teacher and Student Services Department Head.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following core responsibilities are fundamental and essential functions of the Job Coordinator's position.

  • Develops and coordinates job/training sites for identified students
  • Works with job site and internship supervisors to provide feedback to instructional assistants, who act as job coaches
  • Works with job sites and internship supervisors to fade job coach support, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ways in which technology can assist with creating and managing the learning environment, incorporating the verbal and visual redirection and expectations on the job/training site
  • Consults with teachers and therapists to plan for student's needs and required adaptations, modifications, and use of assistive/adaptive technology on the job/training site
  • Implements a variety of procedures for identifying student's learning characteristics and needs, monitoring student progress, and evaluating learning strategies and instructional approaches within job sites and internships
  • Implements strategies for assessing students’ skills within the vocational area
  • Is flexible and adapts to the changing needs of students.
  • Has working knowledge of resources, strategies, networks, organizations, and unique services for individuals with disabilities and their families including career, vocational, and transition support, including possible funding agencies and financial sources for secondary aged students (local, state, and federal)
  • Provides training and consultation to secondary teachers regarding materials, curriculum, and planning as they relate to vocational goals
  • Adheres to all federal, state and local laws regarding the safe operation of a motor vehicle, including the use of adaptive devices/ equipment on vehicles (has 7D license)
  • Participates in staff team meetings, assists in portions of transition assessments and attends required staff training (including certification in de-escalation/CPI) 
  • Promotes the professional and personal development of the student employees. Models expected behaviors and serves in a mentoring role to student employees

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually and 100 pounds with assistance. Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, gripping, twisting and turning frequently. Sitting and kneeling occasionally. Must be able to speak and hear within normal range. 

JOB CONTEXT:The Job Coordinator works in both community and school based settings. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree or higher in Vocational/Rehabilitation, Special Education or a related field. Valid MA driver’s license. Valid MA 7D license, and a positive driving record is required. Must possess effective oral and written communication abilities.
