MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE TEACHER

Job goal:

The Dance teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individuals, in accordance with each student’s ability.

Essential duties & responsibilities:

The following statements of responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.

● Assist with curriculum development and coordination of classroom instruction

● Develop, coordinate, and execute dance choreography with a focus on

age-appropriate skill-building and discipline and on increasing self-esteem and self-awareness

● Instruct fundamental dance techniques and choreography to students in group and individual settings

● Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and records

● Instruct multicultural groups and individuals with disabilities

● Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, faculty, students, and the public

● Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment at all times

● Attend staff development workshops and in-service training

● Attend all before and after school rehearsals

● Keep facilities in proper order, with equipment being properly used, maintained, and stored.

● Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

● Degree in dance, fine arts, or related field

● Experience with various dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip hop, and lyrical, both as a dancer and choreographer

● Classroom teaching experience preferred.

● Evidence of ability to work with diverse student populations.

● Strong interpersonal skills.

● Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
