Westminster Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay is Hiring a Hospice House Attendant Near Virginia, VA

Job Description

The Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads is hiring for a House Attendant!

As a Hospice House Attendant responsible for hospitality, laundry, and housekeeping, you will provide exceptional customer service to patients, their families, volunteers, and other hospice house visitors. You will be responsible for ensuring that the hospice house is clean and comfortable for patients and visitors, and that laundry is done in accordance with established policies and procedures. You will work closely with the clinical team to ensure that the needs of the patients and families are met.

I. QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • An active CNA License is a plus.
  • Experience in hospitality, laundry, or housekeeping, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation principles, and infection control practices applicable to healthcare environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and visitors.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Compassionate and empathetic.
  • Maintain ServSafe certification.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required; additional training or certification in housekeeping, laundry services, or related field preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for residents, families, and staff members.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome and greet patients, families, visitors, and volunteers to the hospice house in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks in resident rooms, common areas, and administrative offices according to established standards and protocols.
  • Ensure that all areas are maintained in a sanitary and orderly manner, including but not limited to dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers, and floors, to uphold hygiene standards and prevent spreading infections.
  • Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to designated disposal areas, adhering to safety and infection control procedures.
  • Restock supplies such as toiletries, towels, linens, and cleaning products as needed to ensure adequate inventory levels.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools in safe and proper working condition, reporting any malfunctions or deficiencies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute linens and personal clothing items for residents following established laundry procedures and guidelines.
  • Handle soiled linens and garments with care, observing proper infection control measures and using appropriate protective equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain laundry equipment and report any malfunctions or repairs needed.
  • Assist with the disposal of waste and recycling.
  • Communicate with the clinical team regarding patient and family needs and requests.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the hospice house to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist with meal service for patients and visitors, including picking up and delivering meals from contracted vendors as needed.
  • Demonstrate infection control and sanitation knowledge concerning food temperatures, hand hygiene, gloves use, and dating food items.
  • Provide other General Services as requested. 
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and resident confidentiality.

III. JOB CONDITIONS

The job requires the ability to:

  • Be available at all times during operating hours and for emergency situations.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform repetitive tasks, lift and carry heavy objects, and stand for extended periods.
  • Work for extended periods of time while standing and being involved in physical activity. 
  • Do extensive bending, lifting, and standing regularly.

IV. ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads will provide orientation and training, as necessary, to assist the applicant in performing the responsibilities listed above. Trainings may be in-house, or outside seminars. Evidence of orientation and training will become part of the personnel file.

V. ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Reports directly to the IPU Director
  • Works cooperatively with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team

The Dozoretz Hospice Hospice House of Hampton Roads is a 12 bed Inpatient Hospice facility opening in the Spring of 2024. Beth Sholom and Westminster Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay have partnered to operate and manage the house.
