Summary: The Machining CNC Operator is an important part of the Wabtec Team. The Machining CNC Operator operates the Machining department CNC Machines. Operators work hard to meet department production requirements while putting safety and quality first in all task. They use precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers to ensure quality is achieved in every part. A successful operator is responsible for working with Machinist to help setup other machines during the operation of assigned machines while learning and developing skills from machinist. Duties and Responsibilities Feed raw material or parts to semi-automated machines Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers Assist Machinist in setups of machines during cycle of machines when needed Fix issues that might occur during the shift Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws Keep records of approved and defective units or final products Debur finished parts Work from a process Foster a Safety first attitude Follow directions from shift supervisors Willingness to learn and develop skills Always looking for process improvements Minimum Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with management Ability to effectively organize a work area to successfully complete task Maintain a good attitude to keep a positive and productive environment Willingness to work in a team atmosphere Willingness to work overtime as needed Ability to lift 35 lbs regularly Ability and willingness to wear all PPE required by Machine Shop Ability to read blueprints in order to produce consistent and quality parts Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to learn and develop into CNC Machinist Requires the ability to work without supervision Must be able to read Micrometer, Blue Prints, and Calipers Authority: All WPT employees have the authority to stop the process they are performing, should the process become unsafe or the outputs nonconforming. Physical Demands: (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.) Employee is regularly required to talk, hear and have daily face-to-face interaction with other employees. Employee is constantly required to stand for 10 hours at a time, with minimal breaks. Employee is constantly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds. Employee is frequently required to walk, bend, reach outward, and handle materials and tools. Employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, squat and/or kneel. Employee is regularly required to see and observe small handwriting, labels, and components. Employee is occasionally required to climb. Employee is required to operate heavy machinery including cranes. Employee is required to wear safety glasses, steel/composite toe shoes and hearing protection The position requires the employee to be on-site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities. The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment and occasionally exposed to cold or hot weather conditions.
