SUMMARY OF JOB
Performs unskilled/skilled work in the repairs/maintenance/construction/ installation of
water/sewer lines/facilities/equipment and maintaining water/sanitary sewer service to
customers. Performs duties of UCT I, II as needed. Operates dump truck/rubber tired
backhoe/mini excavator/skid steer and loader. Performs general laboring tasks.
Installs/repairs water/sewer pipe and fittings without supervision. Services/makes minor
repairs/adjustments on equipment. Trains/instructs other crew members in operation of
equipment/proper work techniques. Inspects equipment for proper safety and ensures
that crew is provided with all necessary equipment for the day's assignment
(pitchforks/shovels/wrenches/water cooler/first aid kit/safety flares/ etc.). Maintains
accurate log sheets/checklists/other required records. CIP crews do not perform
standby/respond to emergencies. May be required to work overtime/extended hours.
Graduation from high school/GED equivalent. Previous experience preferred. Requires
Class A commercial driver's license with air brake/tanker endorsement. Must pass a
hands-on equipment test for rubber tired backhoe, loader, mini excavator and skid steer
performed by division.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned or scheduled.
* Performs repairs, maintenance, and construction of water and sewer facilities and
equipment and maintaining water and sanitary sewer service to customers including
the operation of motorized equipment.
* Operates dump truck, rubber tired backhoe, mini excavator, skid steer and loader in
water and sanitary sewer lines repair and construction and combination sewer cleaner
in sewer maintenance operations.
* When not operating equipment, performs general laboring tasks.
* Makes repairs and installs water and sanitary sewer lines.
* Performs tasks such as water and sewer line troubleshooting and pipe installation.
* Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
* Installs and repairs water and sewer pipe and fittings without supervision.
* Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment.
* Trains and instructs other crew members in operation of equipment and proper work
techniques.
* Inspects equipment for proper safety and ensures that equipment is provided with all
necessary equipment for the day's assignment (i.e., pitchforks, shovels, wrenches,
water cooler, first aid kit, safety flares, etc.).
* Maintains accurate log sheets, checklists, and other required records.
* This position will not be required to work standby duty however employees in this
position may be required to work over time and extended hours.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May oversee the work of assigned employees. May assist responsible supervisor in
interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;
appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and
resolving problems. May be responsible for crew operation in supervisor's or crew leader's
absence.

workers, other Water Authority departments and the general public.

* Must possess and maintain a good work ethic with a strong emphasis on good
attendance, reporting to work on time, completing job assignments in a timely
manner, maintaining a good work attitude, performing all job duties as assigned
and/or scheduled.
* Ability to work varied work shifts including standby and emergency hours as assigned.
* Must successfully complete requirements for UCT Tech III as stated in the Field
Operations Supplemental Guidelines.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, plus 0-1 year experience or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATE, LICENSE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
* Requires possession of a valid Class A commercial driver's license with air brake and
other appropriate endorsements.
* Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license or have the ability to obtain one within 60
days of employment date. No more than six (6) demerit points on driving record if
required to drive Water Authority vehicles.
* Must pass a hands-on equipment test for rubber tired backhoe, loader, mini excavator
and skid steer. Test administered and judged by Field Operations management
member.

vehicles.
* Repetitive movement using equipment is involved.
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stoop,
kneel, crouch, bend, climb, balance or crawl.
* Employee must be able to stand for an extended amount of time at the jobsite.
* Employee must be physically able to walk several miles during the day.
* Employee must be physically able to regularly reach overhead.
* Employee must regularly lift, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally 100
pounds. Assistance is required on weight amounts above those listed. Failure to do so
could result in injury and denied Worker's Compensation benefits.
