Job Summary
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services, the Educational Talent Search (ETS) Project Director will assume overall responsibility of the project, project staff, and project participants.
  • Responsible for providing information about the project and its related activities to WPCC Personnel, Burke County School Personnel, participants, parents and community.
  • Represent the ETS Project by participating in College programs, committees, and activities and have direct input into all College decisions that affect the project or its participants.
  • Prepare, submit, and respond to all reports required by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Ensure that accurate and complete data is maintained for compliance and performance reports.
  • Coordinate the development, advertisement, administration, and evaluation of all project services and activities for program participants.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal regulations concerning the Talent Search Project.
  • Manages the ETS Program’s budget by overseeing expenditures in accordance with federal guidelines, planning for new programming, and managing staff requirements.
  • Supervise project staff, be responsible for the coordination of activities among the staff, complete staff annual performance evaluations, and foster a cohesive workforce that provides professional assistance to students.
  • Responsible for successful completion of project performance objectives.
  • Serve as liaison to Western Piedmont Foundation, Inc., and community agencies which provide resources and services to support project participants.
Hiring Range ($3,551 – $3,770/monthly) 12-month position
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Student Development, Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or related field required.
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in program management, facilitation, and implementation.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of academic advising services; development of individual service plans; and college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy services/programing for disadvantage students.
  • Experience managing projects with specified goals, objectives, and timelines.
Physical Demands: No substantial physical activity required. The functions of the job are usually performed sitting, but may involve some amount of standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Activities including a variety of physical demands, such as extensive walking, outdoor sports such as canoeing, hiking, horseback riding and swimming is required when accompanying participants on cultural enrichment activities, career tours, and college tours. Additionally, the person should be able to work flexible hours during specific programming events that take place outside of the normal work day, including travel and extended overnight trip activities. Also, personal travel utilizing one’s own vehicle is necessary at times as well as some overnight travel for staff development. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard may involve extensive wrist and hand movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.
Working Conditions: Noise level is usually moderate and normal for an office environment.
Hazard Assessment: Exposure to UV light during cultural enrichment activities, career tours and college tours.
Personal Protective Equipment: Sunscreen/Sunblock with SPF greater than or equal to 15 that provides both UVA and UVB protection
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in managing TRIO funded programs or servicing disadvantaged student populations similar to TRIO preferred.
