What we are looking for

Underwriter

A client-focused professional who is responsible for underwriting new and renewal business functions, including servicing of accounts. Someone who is adept at operating efficiently in a very high-volume atmosphere, sharing best practices with the team, meeting the needs of agents, and achieving the business goals of the Company. Someone who operates with integrity, respect and is proud of their ethics and work product.

What you’ll be doing

1. Maintain knowledge of WestPac products and capabilities and understand how these products and capabilities fit into the commercial insurance marketplace.
2. Support the Broker Teams in the placement of new and renewal business for binding and brokerage business.
3. Review and carefully underwrite new and renewal business for careful placement with binding carrier partners.
4. Support Broker Teams in the marketing of submissions to brokerage carrier partners and negotiate terms for quoting.
5. Secure new business quotes/terms from markets and assist retail agents in the placement of new business.
6. Underwrite and quote premium and exposure change endorsements.
7. Support Brokers, Account Managers, and Customer Service Representatives as needed.
8. Perform workflow tasks on agency management system, proficiently and accurately as product excellence is the standard.
9. Maintain positive relationships with agency and carrier contacts.
10. Perform other functions as assigned by management.

What you must have

1. High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. College undergraduate degree preferred.
2. Minimum five years in the insurance industry.
3. Strong verbal & written communication skills to convey professionalism in all facets of the job, both internally and externally.
4. Detail oriented, resourceful, and can think critically.
5. Highly organized with the ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
6. Ability to travel and engage in outbound marketing endeavors including after business hours.
7. Adaptability to changes in processes and procedures.
8. Values a team environment and appreciates constructive feedback.
9. An active P&C license, additional insurance-related designations preferred.
