Western Market is Hiring a Team Member (F/T) - Bakery Department Near Ferndale, MI

Reports To: Bakery Manager

Position Summary:
The Bakery Team Member is responsible for the preparation and merchandising of baked goods to the highest standard of quality and consistency. The Bakery Team Member works under the direction of the Bakery Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Preparation of in-house baked good items according to product specifications.
Package, price and provide appropriate signage for bakery items as needed.
Receive orders and process orders from vendors.
Ensure products are stocked well and rotated.
Maintain sanitary and organized kitchen production area, according to all governing codes, guidelines, and regulations.
Maintain orderly backstock/freezer area.
Merchandise bakery table, bread shelves, and other bakery item displays throughout the store.
Coordinate appropriate signage for products.
Coordinate product with Marketing Coordinator for demo and sampling.
Train staff as directed.
Maintain predictable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.

Other Responsibilities & Duties:

Ensure follow-up of department phone calls and messages.
Assist customers throughout other departments.

Experience working as a contributing and effective team member.
Excellent work ethic that emphasizes efficiency and precision.
Ability to take direction and follow instructions.
Ability to switch tasks efficiently and effectively.
Willingness to learn new skills.
Ability to train new personnel.
ServSafe Certification desired.

Special Considerations:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Working conditions include a fast-paced retail environment that involves long intervals of standing, crouching and reaching while moving product. Exposure to extreme cold (coolers and freezers) and heat (cooking equipment) for extended periods of time. Little to no outdoor work is required.
Language Skills: intermediate.
Mathematical Skills: basic.
Reasoning Ability: intermediate.
Equipment used: proofer; oven; microwave; hot case; Hobart scale; knives; knife sharpener.
Computer skills: POS System; email.

Hours per Week: 40 Hours per Week (Full-time)

Wage: Position begins at $15 per hour

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
