Western Market is Hiring a Buyer (F/T) - Beer & Wine Department Near Ferndale, MI
Reports To: Managing Ownership Position Summary: The Beer & Wine Buyer is responsible for the selection, curation, purchasing, selling and merchandising of wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Taste, evaluate and make notes on wine and beer products as presented by sales reps or presented at tasting events.
Assist in the selection of products as requested.
Receive and check orders, submit invoices, and manage credits/returns.
Ensure product is at the correct price point to meet department margin goals.
Ensure products are stocked well and rotated.
Coordinate appropriate signage for products.
Coordinate product with for demo and sampling.
Set-up, staff, and clean-up weekly wine tastings.
Staff out-of-store events as requested.
Maintain clean and orderly backstock areas, including designated space in produce cooler.
Attend local beverage shows.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Focused self-directed study of wine and beer.
Follow-up on Customer Requests as designated.
Follow-up of department phone calls and messages.
Contribute to the personal and professional development of team members.
Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist customers in other Departments as needed.
Assist with bottle returns.
Assist with customer returns.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Excellent customer service abilities.

Excellent work ethic that emphasizes efficiency and precision.
Ability to take direction and follow instructions.

Must have detailed wine and beer knowledge.
Experience palate, with emphasis on analytical tasting abilities.
Ability to train new personnel.
Ability to generate turns and product movement.
Ability to optimize product mix for profit margin overall program diversity.
Ability to process invoices and returns.
TIPS or equivalent Certification.
Special Considerations:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Working conditions include a fast-paced retail environment that involves long intervals of standing, crouching and reaching while moving product. Little outdoor work is required.
