Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: October 2023
RESPONSIBILITIES: Broadly, this position ensures compliance with federal regulations regarding human research subjects (IRB), animal research subjects (IACUC), biosafety, export control, intellectual property and responsible conduct of research and provides training to faculty and staff in these areas.
The Compliance Specialist will monitor, review and approve research activity that involves human and animal subjects and ensure compliance with federally mandated regulations regarding human subjects, animal care and use, biosafety, export control and research integrity. They administer the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Duties also include administration of the Intellectual Property Oversight Committee (IPOC) and working with faculty, staff, students and external consultants on intellectual property and technology transfer matters. The Compliance Specialist will coordinate RCR training and review programs as well as manage federal Conflict of Interest (COI) policies.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Research training and/or experience, including in-depth knowledge and application of Federal regulation 45CFR Part 46"The Common Rule"
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able and willing to travel in order to conduct and/or receive training
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to research topics on the web and work with software vendor programs (currently CITI Training)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be "in hand" at the time of appointment.
Additional Information:
THE DEPARTMENT: The Office of Sponsored Projects provides comprehensive support services to the University community for the successful administration of externally funded sponsored projects as well as compliance with all human and animal subject research. The office has 6 FTE plus student workers. OSP reports directly to the Provost and Academic Vice President.
