Reports to: Assistant Superintendent, Director of Special Services
Job Goal (purpose of position): Performs school nurse duties under minimal supervision to provide medical, health, and safety assistance to students and staff of the district.
Essential Job Functions
Other Performance MeasuresGood people skills are essential to the successful performance of the job. Following safety guidelines and policies are critical to the safety of the employee, other staff and students. Adherence to district dress standards, proper attendance/leave policies and other work habits are important to maintaining discipline and respect in an environment conducive to learning.
Physical/Mental Requirements And Working ConditionsIn a typical work day, employee must be able to sit or stand for 2 hours and walk 4 hours or any combination thereof. Job requires reaching above the shoulder and occasional bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, and pushing/pulling. Job requires carrying/lifting up to 15 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds (boxes of material, screening equipment, CPR training equipment, etc.). Job requires employee to use both hands for repetitive actions involving simple/firm grasping and fine manipulation. Employee must process manual dexterity sufficient to operate computers and other office equipment. Employee must possess good visual and hearing abilities sufficient to observe students and staff and communicate with students, staff and parents in large and/or small groups. Employee must mobility enough to move from site to site. Employee is required to have a reliable vehicle for traveling throughout the district.

Terms of Employment: 184-day contract (certified staff schedule) 7.5-hour day

Job Goal (purpose of position): Performs school nurse duties under minimal supervision to provide medical, health, and safety assistance to students and staff of the district.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform &/or coordinate vision and hearing screenings where appropriate.
- Monitor & review (in conjunction with site secretaries) student immunizations records, contact parents regarding necessary injections.
- Acquire and administer the Hep B injections for employees of the district, maintain employee Hep B records and submit a copy of the record to personnel
- Give presentations in student classrooms, as requested by teachers, on various topics including but not limited to: puberty/body changes (4th/5th grades), AIDS prevention (8th/10th grades), hygiene, fitness, importance of nutrition, CPR for High School Students, etc.
- Monitor student medication needs (in conjunction with site secretaries) if required during school hours.
- Develop health care plans for students when necessary
- Participate as a member of an IEP team when necessary for students with special needs
- Check students for and educate families regarding head lice
- Assist in development and implementation of school policies regarding medical needs, wellness, health, and safety
- Train employees on CPR and First Aid when necessary
- Stay abreast of new health and safety-related laws & regulations in order to advise administration accordingly with regard to district policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned by Superintendent.
