Job Description

• Developing firmware in C/C and assembly languages for embedded servo control system in hard disk drives.
• Developing MATLAB tools for processing and visualizing servo parameters in order to analyze the stability robustness of the disk drive. Handling various projects in manufacturing process data analysis, using MATLAB, SQL.
• Running test experiments involving different servo designs and features to analyze the servo mechanical characteristics of hard disk drives and providing feedback to Servo Control Design and Mechanical teams.
• Collaborating with Mechanical team to perform assessment on impact of mechanical vibration from chassis on servo quality metrics such as head-positioning error and command throughputs.
• Performing failure root cause analysis (FA) and providing solution if applicable, participating in the interlock meetings with production teams to provide technical inputs related to production issues.
• Collaborating with QA and test engineering teams to support customer qualifications, providing failure analysis support and representing servo team during cross-functional failure analysis task forces.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of work experience in embedded systems development is preferred
• Experienced with embedded firmware development, digital signal processing and filter design.
• Excellent working knowledge with MATLAB, data visualization, data processing and database query languages such as MySQL.
• Embedded firmware programing skills in C/C , knowledge of low-level languages such as Assembly is a plus.
• Experienced with code repository managements such as SVN, GIT.
• Willing to work in a highly collaborative environment with a professional team.
• Strong analytical and communication skills with an attitude of always being open to learning.

Desired Education Level:

• Masters degree in electrical, mechanical or computer engineering. PhD is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits Details

• An employee's pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
• The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
• You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital's Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan.
