Position Description

The High School Outreach Specialist will assist in raising the profile of Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) through recruitment efforts for dual enrollment students through high school recruiting, college visit days and other community engagement events. The High School Outreach Specialist represents the College both on and off campus to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, school district leadership and additional individuals and organizations. This representation is designed to assist the high schools in South Dakota in understanding WDTC’s mission and growth, and to enhance pathways for student enrollment.

Position Essential Duties
  • Coordinate the setup of off-site courses, including outreach to school districts for course requests. Promote WDTC course offerings and partnerships between WDTC and local school districts.
  • Work with WDTC staff, faculty, and administration to identify needs for course implementation at off-site locations.
  • Work with the Director of Admissions to create, implement, and maintain the prospective student database, enrollment plans, and dual enrollment reporting.
  • Maintain dual enrollment student files, coordinate with Marketing to update website and Admissions materials, and maintain off-site admissions, enrollment, and other related paperwork.
  • Serve as the primary contact for recruiting efforts and informational visits to various high schools and businesses within the state and region to promote enrollment.
  • Identify and travel to various state or high school career fairs and post-high planning events in South Dakota. Some out of state recruiting may be required. Prepare and present at school visits/presentations and attend off-site career fairs/events. Promote a CTE-curriculum mindset to aid in conversion of dual enrollment students to full time WDTC students.
  • Facilitate communication and relationships among South Dakota School Counselors and WDTC offices including the Campus Store, IT, Student Success Center, and Registrar’s Office to support students taking dual enrollment courses on WDTC’s campus, online, and at off-site locations.
  • Initiate and cultivate relationships with future WDTC students, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff, along with educational or community groups to motivate them to identify opportunities to aid in potential areas of growth.
  • Manage follow up and reporting with state partners utilizing effective and positive oral and written communication. Connect educational or community partners with the appropriate WDTC personnel or departments as necessary.

The employee occupying this position will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other job-related duties as required by his/her supervisor. All tasks assigned must be performed on a regular and consistent basis.
Qualifications

Associate Degree in Education, Business, Communications, or related field and 3 years’ experience in higher education, K12 education, community-based organization, admissions, sales, recruitment, public relations or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the expectation of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to the goal of a comprehensive enrollment services office.
  • Knowledge of current technology used in educational services.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, functions, and organization of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to sell the college.
  • Ability to plan and organize daily, weekly, and monthly schedule.
  • Ability to make presentations to small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability in oral and written communication skills.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting difficult situations accurately and adopting effective courses of action.
  • Reading, interpreting, applying, and explaining rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Effectively responding to all situations/incidents using sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion.
