Content Area Description
This position would be based in WestEd’s Mathematics Area. The Mathematics Area conducts research and evaluation to improve mathematics products and programs.
Position Overview
WestEd’s Mathematics Area is seeking candidates for a summer internship program, beginning on or after June 10. Interns will have an opportunity to build their research skills through contributions to multiple projects, including data collection and analysis, instrument development, literature reviews, scholarly writing, and other responsibilities related to their individual goals and interests.
Applicants should be enrolled in a master's degree program or beginning their first year of a doctoral program and bring important ideas and perspectives from their own educational experiences and motivations for pursuing advanced degrees. Interns at this level will learn about various research designs, gain experience with a range of research methodologies, and build knowledge of national issues and trends in research and practice.
The intern will be assigned to 1-3 projects, depending on their time, interests, experience, and internship goals. They may also be available for occasional consultation and contributions on additional projects in need of their specific skills or expertise (e.g., a project that wants an instructional leader to review a teacher survey). WestEd is particularly interested in candidates with quantitative research skills.
The intern will receive a primary supervisor/mentor who will help them to identify relevant project work and opportunities to build connections and leverage learning opportunities across WestEd.
Timing and hours can be flexible; however, the ideal position will include 20-40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks.
Applicants should submit a resume; contact details for three references; and a cover letter describing their interest in an internship at WestEd, their goals for the internship, and any relevant research experience and skills they would bring to this role.
Review of applications will begin on May 3 and continue on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
