Academic Tutor Long-Term Substitute

to oversee the Ranger Academic Tutor Center


from 3/27/24 through EOY (End of Year)

Job Title:
Tutor, Math and ELA

Reports to: Principal

Department: High School, general and special education

Work Year: School year, 184 days

FLSA Status: non-exempt, tutor union


Job Goal:

The Math Interventionist/Tutor fosters a love of learning that encourages student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners. This position will target and support students with gaps in their understanding of basic mathematics knowledge and understanding. Math Tutor will be expected to identify, design and implement remediation strategies and track the progress of students whose math skills are below grade level. This individual will work very closely with our math teachers, Middle School Math Dept Chair and building administration, and will need to have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Our middle school math program follows the DESE grade level curriculum standards and utilizes a variety of resources as instructional material including Eureka and Zearn.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
    • Professional Certification:
      • MA DESE teaching license, eligibility for licensure, or working toward licensure
      • Hiring Requirement: Successful completion of DESE mandated CORI and fingerprinting

      Preferred Experience:

      • Teaching English Language Learners and in a diverse public school setting
      • Working with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
      • Strong background in math instruction
      • Demonstrated skills in effectively and appropriately integrating technology into lesson design
      • Highly desirable to have experience with:
        • Co-Teaching
        • Guided Math Workshop model
        • Technology Integration

        Essential Functions of the job include, but are not limited to:

        • Creates a welcoming, supportive, and equitable learning environment centered around maintaining effective relationships
        • Plans and implement differentiated lessons and ongoing formative assessment based on district objectives and students’ needs
        • Applies knowledge of current research and theory to instructional design with a demonstrated commitment to remain current in content knowledge and instructional pedagogy
        • Partners and collaborates with teachers, department colleagues, and specialists
        • Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
        • Integrates technology in order to enhance and extend student learning experiences
        • Demonstrates flexibility and collaboration when working with students, colleagues, and families
        • Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials or assessments when appropriate
        • Evaluates and refines instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning
        • Engages in internal and external professional development activities and meets district expectations for licensure recertification
        • Participates in all school based and district-wide faculty and committee meetings as required
        • Performs any other relative duties as assigned.

        Supervisory Responsibilities:

        The Math Tutor does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff.


        Salary and Benefits:

        Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per the contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
