Job Summary:
Westat is seeking a Data Scientist to join our Statistics and Data Science team. The position includes managing, querying, and processing large data files in databases; developing natural language processing, machine learning, deep learning, and network analysis methods; programing in R, Python, and SAS. Duties also include data analytics, data visualization, and dashboard development.
Hybrid 1-2 days per week preferred, remote work arrangement also available.
Job Responsibilities:
* Develop and test R, Python, and SAS code.
* Apply supervised and unsupervised machine learning/deep learning frameworks to data collected from a variety of sources.
* Use natural language processing methods to clean, parse, and analyze large and unstructured text-based documents.
* Collect/acquire data from a variety of sources including websites using Application Programming Interface (API) and web-scraping.
* Develop data visualizations and dashboards in R, Python, and Tableau.
* Develop and maintain code documentation using Git, implement coding standards, and apply best practices.
Basic Qualifications:
* A master's in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics or other related quantitative field. Student applicants must be awarded their graduate degree by May 2024.
* Demonstrated experience in R, Python, and SAS.
* Developed, queried, and managed large data files in databases.
* Used Git as version control system.
* Developed machine learning and natural language processing methods for data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Coding experience for health or social science projects.
* Conducting network analysis.
* Experience analyzing survey data (paradata or open-ended questions).
Other Required Qualifications:
* Demonstrated communication skills.
* Collaboration with teams, managers and/or clients.
* Organization skills, including time management ability.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Detail oriented.
