Job Summary: We are inviting a committed Special Education Professional Learning Specialist to become a key member of the West40 Professional Learning team. This role involves crafting, delivering, and assessing professional development programs tailored for educators who serve students with disabilities. Responsibilities include coaching teachers and administrators on Tier 1 and Tier 2 behavior interventions. The ideal candidate will bring a profound knowledge of special education best practices and a strong passion for improving the educational journeys and achievements of students with diverse learning requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty.   • Must have a Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Must hold a valid teaching or administrative credential with a specialization in special education
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, with at least 2 years in a leadership or training capacity
  • Must have demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring educators in effective teaching strategies and classroom management tailored to special education
  • Must have a strong understanding of the legal and ethical considerations in special education
  • Must be able to design and present professional learning experiences to large and small groups
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Must have the proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and adjust programs to meet educator and student needs
  • Must have proficiency in using technology to enhance math instruction
  • Must have strong knowledge of and experience with educational technology tools and resources

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to successfully lead the selection/creation/customization of professional learning to support and coach our diverse districts and partner entities.
  • Maintain ongoing, open communications with the Director of Professional Learning
  • Routinely offers creative/innovative suggestions for growth of position and department
  • Establish collaborative relationships with the district and building leadership to co-plan around their needs
  • Assure the set-up of service/project agreements and maintain accurate records for assigned projects/partnerships, including Toggl, Invoicing, Quarterly Validations, etc.
  • Represent West40 concerning statewide organizations and/or stakeholder groups and/or grant management
  • Ensure participants in PL events can sign in/out and acquire PDHs and CEUs.
  • Maintain a local active presence in the professional learning community by facilitating networks, communicating through listservs, and attending region-wide events within the West40 community.
  • Recognize topics of high interest to our districts and take charge of their own learning to offer those opportunities regularly.
  • Model, lead, coach, and develop professional learning experiences for West40 staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to assess training needs and develop strategic professional learning plans.
  • Create resources and materials to support staff development and enhance instructional practices in special education settings.
  • Lead the integration of technology in special education through training and support sessions.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of professional learning programs and make adjustments based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Stay current with trends, research, and policy in special education to ensure compliance and relevance of professional learning offerings.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to teachers on developing individualized education programs (IEPs), differentiated instruction, inclusive practices, and effective classroom management.
  • Actively coach and support educators in implementing effective teaching strategies and classroom techniques that cater to the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Facilitate discussions and professional learning experiences on behavior management strategies and positive behavior support systems.
  • Participate in district-wide initiatives to promote inclusivity and accessibility in all learning environments.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement among teachers and students.
  • Other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
