The West Virginia State Tax Division is seeking a candidate who will primarily examine and audit tax returns and other related documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance with WV law. The position will have primary responsibility for ensuring that a taxpayer has been given due process before a tax liability is finalized and referred for forced collections. This position will be based in the Accounts Monitoring Unit of the Compliance Division, providing needed support for revenue agents in that section. Other examples of work include but are not limited to: Review taxpayer records to determine if the taxpayer is in full tax compliance. Review payment plan agreements and work on cases that are pending payment plan defaults. Conduct compliance checks on tax returns to verify compliance for Informal Offers in Compromises (IOIC’s), will draft IOIC’s for unit manager’s review. Receive and review required financial documents to process IOIC’s. Work tax lien recording/releases/withdrawals and work with counties to assure that tax lien information is correct and recorded properly. Draft correspondence on a variety of tax issues to obtain additional information from or relay information to the taxpayer.May assist in the drafting of forms and other publications needed by the unit supervisor. Work return mail and updates our tax system with correct return address information. Assist Revenue Agents in processing incoming mail. Answer Compliance switchboard when necessary.
