Special Hiring Rates: $41,625.792 - Department of Environmental ProtectionEmployee will be assigned to the Executive Office, Homeland Security and Emergency Response. At the advanced level, performs complex professional work in a statewide specialty area responding to hazardous materials spills and incidents as a member of the Emergency Response Unit. This position is on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week in order to respond to hazardous materials emergencies including but not limited to: Abandoned drums and containers,Transportation incidents,Oil spills,Fires involving chemicals,WMD/Homeland Security incidents,Household hazardous waste removals, etc.Duties include: Overseeing and directing removal/remedial work performed by private contractors hired by DEP or responsible parties, usually without direct supervision;Performing removal/remedial work as situations require;The responsibility for use and maintenance of a wide variety of complex detection and response equipment as well as personal protective equipment and other safety equipment;Working alone or with other members of the unit to solve difficult problems through innovative thinking, perseverance and teamwork;Providing training to unit members as well as other agencies involved in hazardous materials response; Performing other duties as assigned and/or required.Position will at a minimum complete training and certification for: OSHA 29CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER, hazardous materials technician;NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, and 700 series training;USEPA RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training;USDOP Hazardous Materials Transportation training;Forklift Operation training;Must be able to work in conditions that require physical exertion for extended periods of time;Employee must be physically able to use a self-contained breathing apparatus, air purifying respirator, and other personal protective equipment;Must be able to pass an annual physical examination.Note: Must have a valid driver’s license.The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to being hired and annually thereafter or as needed.Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.Qualifying applicants will be required to complete an internet based profile assessment to compare the applicant’s thinking and reasoning skills, behavioral traits and the occupational interest against the traits determined to be important to the posted position.Selected Candidate for this position will be subject to a background check.
