West Virginia Department of Transportation (WV) is Hiring a Transportation Geographic Information Systems Program Analyst 1 - Kanawha County Near Charleston, WV
JOB The Transportation GIS Program Analyst 1 performs technical work in geographic information systems (GIS). Work involves design and maintenance of data resources and operation of GIS software within the context of programs and policy directives. Work will also include GIS analysis, application development, user support, and other GIS-related activities. Performs related work as required. Pay Grade: 17 EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs GIS analysis• Analyzes user organization functional requirements and develop GIS application designs• Writes and tests GIS application programs and prepares documentation of GIS application programs• Prepares GIS application user manuals and trains user staff in the operation of GIS applications• Provides user support for GIS application programs• Performs GIS hardware and software operations, performs activities associated with implementation, operation, and enhancement of the GIS software• Participates in self-study and vendor-supplied courses to improve skills in more complex programming areas• The work involves isolating and defining unknown conditions, resolving critical problems, or developing new theories• Personal contacts may include individuals or groups from outside the Department of Transportation. Certain meetings or conversations may take place outside of the agency in a somewhat unstructured setting.• Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license will be required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with six (6) semester hours in computer science or GIS. Note: Preference may be given to those with degrees in geography, cartography, geology, forestry, natural or earth sciences, environmental sciences, engineering, engineering technology, mathematics, computer science, planning, or a related field. REQUIRED EXPERIENCEThis is the entry level classification in the series. No experience is required.
