West Valley School District is Hiring a CTE Computer Science Designer @ West Valley Innovation Center Near Yakima, WA

STARTING THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

POSITION: 1.0 FTE CTE Computer Science (7-9 Grade)

LOCATION: West Valley Innovation Center

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM Field
  • Experience teaching Computer Science/Information Technology
  • Valid Washington State Teacher’s Certification
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) Initial or Continuing Certification in:
  • Business Education – OR –
  • Computer Application and Related Programs V521206 & Computer Technology V470110
  • Previous experience in a similar setting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with the College in the High School Articulation Process
  • Experience with coding languages
  • Bilingual

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Assume responsibility for the 7-9 Computer Science program at the Innovation Center which includes content in
  • Microsoft, Google, and others
  • Software and applications
  • Computer repair
  • Network and security
  • Professionalism in IT
  • Applications of computer science in engineering, manufacturing, and agriculture
  • Experience running a Career and Technical Student Organization
  • Knowledge and incorporation of 21st Century Learning Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grade appropriate Classroom Based Assessments for Career and Technical Education
  • Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels.
  • Evidence of providing for individual student learning styles.
  • Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Integration of Common Core and other state/national standards into curriculum.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Commit to bell-to-bell instruction using best practices including student evaluation (formative assessment).
  • Create a safe and positive learning environment for all students. This includes adequately securing class and practice rooms when not physically present to supervise.
  • Participate in CTE Advisory Meetings, minimum of three a year
  • Adhere to all West Valley School District and West Valley Innovation Center policies and expectations for staff and students.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Regularly incorporate higher level thinking and analytical skills in instruction, assessment and performance.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.
  • Be committed to success for all students.
  • Work with employers and other district staff to arrange and supervise worksite learning opportunities and apprenticeships.
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals. This includes monthly staff meetings and professional development days.
  • Implement the requirements of I.D.E.A., Section 504, and A.D.A. in the education of students with disabilities.
  • Actively participate in WVSD’s professional development program (TAP/ACCEL).

Working Relationships

Work in partnership with both large and small groups of teachers and other professional staff. Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff. Team up with grade-level colleagues to plan lessons, analyze student data, and maintain a focus on continuous improvement. Cooperate with the building administrator in the observation and evaluation process. When working with instructional paraprofessionals, provide appropriate lesson plans and activity supervision. May deal with a wide range of student abilities and behaviors; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.

Working Conditions

The daily work is performed in a classroom setting. The job incumbent is often required to stand or sit for prolonged periods, be exposed to a computer display terminal for prolonged periods, and meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines. May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather; lift, move, and position students and equipment; supervise students, bus loading/unloading; attend to students’ personal hygiene; may be required to deal with distraught, angry, or hostile individuals; may need to take precautions to avoid exposure to student bodily fluids and cleaning or disinfecting compounds; required to work in non-routine positions for extended periods.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job related is performed under a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere
