Description

This position performs all duties and responsibilities in cleaning and maintaining all animal cages/kennels, litter boxes and feeding and watering of all animals. Maintains inventory of supplies, dog and cat food, cat litter, and other animal foods as needed. Familiar with computers and data input. Record all animals brought to the shelter and maintain all information pertaining to the animals while here. Updates and inputs data to maintain information on all animals in software system and kennel cards. Proper use of kennel equipment, such as control pole, leashes, cleaning equipment, etc. Able to administer medications. Euthanizes animals in appropriate manner using pentobarbital, or other approved methods. Assist in maintaining outside dog areas.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 4 x 10-hour shifts

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain the animal shelter and grounds.
• Clean the shelter kennels, cages, floors, walls, animal dishes and equipment.
• Wash/fold blankets and towels.
• Water and feed all animals in the shelter in appropriate manner.
• Keep and update all kennel cards of all animals entering the shelter, moving from cage to cage and leaving the shelter.
• Administer medications when needed, record times and dates of administration.
• Euthanizes animals as needed in appropriate manner using sodium pentobarbital or other approved methods; maintain records.
• Proper use of equipment; control poles, leashes and muzzles when needed.
• Record in computer system all actions taken regarding animals coming, going or living in the shelter.
• Provide good customer service to patrons of the Animal Shelter.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to interact with the public in an appropriate manner.

• Must be able to keep records and files of work progress.
• Must have general knowledge of maintenance of building and grounds, maintenance and repair equipment, including lawn maintenance equipment.
• Able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned.
• Some knowledge of power tools and maintenance equipment.
• Must have computer skills.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.

Education and/or Experience:

• Graduation from a standard senior high school or GED equivalent.
• Demonstrate math, reading and writing skills.

Language Skills:

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
