Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be paid to those working alternate shifts. Eligible for semi annual discretionary bonus based on site performance.
JOB SUMMARY
This position requires a basic knowledge of aircraft interiors in addition to an advanced knowledge of upholstery as it applies to aircraft. Modifications, repair, refurbishment and reinstallation of interior components are primary functions. Job duties will vary each day and are designated by the Upholstery Team Leader. May be required to work independently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
U Assist with design and techniques for major modification projects.
U Must possess a working familiarity with different seat styles typical to aircraft.
U Work independently when required.
U Perform general upholstery duties on aircraft seats and other interior items as Required. This shall include, but not be limited to duties as removal and installation of seats, disassembly, cleaning, repair and modifications of components as needed.
U Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling when required.
U Cleanliness of shop and surroundings.
U Assist with training to ensure job knowledge and performance of lesser-experienced employees.
U Able to accomplish basic foam build ups, patterning and sewing of seat parts and other upholstery items.
U Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
A valid drivers license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required
Experience
3 - 5 years experience on aircraft upholstery.
Knowledge of materials and foams used in aviation.
Knowledge of repairs and techniques used on various seat styles.
Initiative
Self-motivated and able to maintain a rapid pace.
Able to process work with minimal supervision.
Written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibility
Must perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
Maintain customer oriented work habits.
Assist in major modification work as needed.
Training of lesser experienced employees.
Contacts
Other technicians in interior shop or other departments.
Upholstery Team Leader, Install Team Lead assigned to that project, Interior Supervisor and Interior Manager.
Company sales representatives.
Customers or outside vendors.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Mental Requirements
Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, haz mat, etc.
Ability to communicate with employees, customers and vendors in a professional manner.
Ability to work with others in a professional manner.
Ability to research various items and fill out a work order book properly.
Ability to plan and organize procedures and operations.
Supervision
Will work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Interior Management.
May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.
Work with minimal supervision when required.
Working Conditions
The majority of work will be accomplished in a heated hangar or shop area.
Work in aircraft on ramp on occasion.,
Varied positions in and around the aircraft.
Equipment Used
Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.
Computer, copy machine, fax machine, etc.
