Salary: $22 - $25 / hr.; Not eligible for benefits
Schedule: 2-3 Hours per day with additional hours available for subbing
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Job Function: To transport students to and from school and school related events
Training: Paid training available for qualified applicants
Essential Functions:
Safely drive a school bus to transport students to an after-school program on a daily basis for 2-3 hours
As available and needed, safely drive a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations;
As available and needed transport students, teachers and others on school field or activity trips.
Inspect assigned bus on a daily basis prior to transporting passengers to ensure that bus is in good, clean and safe working order.
Maintain order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with district policies and procedures; report any incidents involving student discipline.
Follow procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, and that all students have departed bus at the end of all routes.
Prepare aides and students for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as required.
In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuate children according to written and practiced procedures, ensures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written report.
Attend and participate in training and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
Major Responsibilities:
Safe and legal operation of a school bus.
Safe and timely transportation of students from origin to destination.
Proper loading and unloading of students to assure safety and minimal risk of danger or injury.
Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork.
Development and maintenance of professional and effective relations between the transportation department, students, parents and school personnel.
Professional representation of West Lafayette Community School Corporation and the student transportation industry through responsible and safe driving.
Additional Duties:
Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Position Specifications:
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Must obtain and maintain a valid class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake school bus endorsements.
Have and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
Meet or exceed medical requirements of the United States Department of Transportation and the State of Indiana as stated by IC 20-9-1-3-1 sec 1a.
Be able to pass all drug and alcohol tests required by the US Department of Transportation.
Have the ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical calculations with sufficient mental ability to handle receipts, road maps, road signs and calculate mileage.
Have great communication skills.
Be able to follow instructions and take directions via two-way radio.
