About the Job

About the Job: West Financial Services (WFS) is currently recruiting for a Director of Portfolio Management. The Director of Portfolio Management is responsible for the management, supervision and direction of the Investment Management department, including the development of new business and coordination of investment management policies, to promote growth and profitability. Also responsible for coaching and managing a team of portfolio managers and associate managers in an effort to grow the company’s client base as well as achieve consistent client service. MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Investment Policy: Assists the Chief Investment Officer in the development of short and long-term investment policies and strategies based on management investment philosophy and client investment objectives. Participates in Investment Committee and Research Group meetings and decisions as well as contributes to Daily Strategy meetings. 2. Portfolio Management: Implements the investment strategy as outlined within the Investment Guidelines for each account for the assigned group of client accounts for which West Financial Services (WFS) has investment authority; monitors the accounts to ensure the asset allocation is maintained within the parameters set forth; monitors portfolio performance and recognizes gains and losses; assists in ongoing client communication; submits portfolio changes to trader; prepares for and participates in the investment reviews with clients. 3. Business Development: Cultivates and maintains relationships with numerous sources of new business, including company officials, attorneys, accountants, and other centers of influence. Meets with prospects to explain company services. Prepares and delivers proposals to prospective clients. Maintains prospect tracking system and participates and supports development of the WFS marketing program. 4. Market Research: Keeps informed of developments in the security markets; uses fundamental and/or technical research to arrive at sound and timely investment decisions. Performs security research as directed by the Research Group, Director of Equity Research or per client request. Participates in Investment Committee meetings and decisions as well as contributes to Daily Strategy meetings. 5. Leadership/Management of Department Staff: Provides routine coaching, training and assistance for direct reports to develop knowledge, skills and abilities to maximize performance and potential. Documents performance and completes performance review forms in a timely manner. 6. Monitoring of Client Account Assets: Prepares portfolio review schedule. Conducts periodic reviews of all client assets held in the Investment Department. Reviews periodic reports on investment performance to assist in evaluation of division performance. Assists CCO with SEC compliance reporting requirements. SCOPE OF AUTHORITY: - Supervises multi-level subordinates involving decisions for staffing, salary and promotion. Complies with all aspects of performance management. - Decisions could have significant effect on the company and a major impact within area of responsibility. Authority to operate with significant latitude within the broad framework of company policy. Incumbent works in close consultation with top management at WFS.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Position requires a bachelors degree or higher in finance or related field and a thorough knowledge of U.S. Treasuries, agencies, municipal bonds, stocks, and mutual funds. Also requires a CFP® or CFA designation. 2. A minimum of five years work related experience is required, including experience in equity investments and asset allocation principles. 3. Requires extensive internal and external contacts at all levels involving a high degree of diplomacy, tact, judgment, timing and persuasion. External contacts involve dealing with persons or groups on matters of major importance. 4. Ability to communicate complex information from diverse sources in an organized manner. Ability to write statements of broad policy. Ability to make effective presentations of proposals and recommendations before internal and external clients at all levels. 5. High level problem-solving skills are required; problems are technically complex and require the collection, interpretation, and analysis of data from diverse sources. 6. Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, Morningstar Principia and Axys. SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements. Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions. Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.
