NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATION MENTOR - WEST FARGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS
POSITION: Native American Education Mentor - West Fargo Public Schools
TERM: 9-month (182 day) position following the school calendar - This position requires some flexibility to work evening cultural events. (number of days will be prorated depending on start date for the 2023-2024 school year)
SUMMARY: Mentors help and support Native American students. Focus areas include student academic achievement, school attendance, school connectedness, physical-social-emotional-mental wellness, school-family partnership, and Native American culture.
Responsibilities:
Mentorship: works directly and collaboratively with Native American students and their families, and school staff, with a focus on keeping youth engaged in school.

Accepts referrals for support by district staff, such as administrators, social workers, counselors, teachers, etc.
Regularly monitors and documents target students’ attendance, grades, and behavior; provides regular feedback to students, communicates regularly with families, and initiates efforts to keep youth engaged in school.
Collaborates with school administration, counselors, teachers, school staff, and Indian Education Program staff to support and monitor student progress.
Facilitates and promotes communication between home and school.
Assists in planning and facilitating Native American activities in the secondary schools as needed.
Assists in the planning and execution of cultural events, as needed.
Attends professional development workshops appropriate to the position, including all mandatory district training.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, motivate, and inspire individuals and groups
Strong communication and relationship management skills
Knowledge of Native American culture, history, values, and communities
Reliable and dependable attendance

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with K-12 students

SALARY: Minimum of $16.25/hour plus excellent benefits, following A125 on the 2023-2024 Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule
