The Fire and Safety Inspector will report to the Fire & Occupational Safety Specialist within the EHS Department. This position follows a Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm work schedule. The position requires moderate physical activity and a working knowledge of applicable building and fire codes, state regulations, and their application in various occupational and educational settings.
The candidate must be able to obtain ICC Fire Inspection I certification or equivalent within 12 months of hire. As well as to complete a OSHA 30-hour training and an Incident Command System training: IS-700, IS-100, IS-200, and IS-800 within 6 months of hire.
 Responsibilities include:
  • Ensure the University's compliance with Life Safety Code and International Fire Code by conducting evacuation drills, monthly fire safety inspections, and life safety equipment inspections
  • Maintain frequent oral and written communications with campus administrators, faculty, professional staff, and facilities management, undergraduate and graduate students
  • Assist in planning and conducting fire safety and occupational health and safety training programs, and providing specialized technical assistance to mitigate safety hazards, dangers, or accidents
  • Investigate and document incidents such as fire, hazardous material releases, odors, slips, and falls, to ensure a safe campus environment
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve code violations and fire safety equipment deficiencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons. As well as providing occasional after-hours technical support.
  • Three years of advanced clerical or para-professional work which included the collection, recording, compilation, and presentation of office management or program related information,
    OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training. An Associate's Degree may be substituted for two years of required experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with Safety Programs
  • Experience performing inspections
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel
