ROLE

Help a federal agency by using innovative business intelligence (BI) solutions to empower decision-makers on strategic, operational, and tactical choices. 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop business understanding of complex and varying data sources
• Work directly with Transportation Team members and NPS IT Specialists to assess data and data sources to support reporting needs
• Use BI Software (Power BI, SSRS, Power Query, and Tableau) and SQL to create or assist others in building visual dashboards and reporting solutions that provide meaningful insight to operational results
• Create and conduct on demand and standard report creation and analyses for mid-level and senior management
• Build data visualization dashboards and reports. Work with Managers and Project Managers to easily visualize finance and budget, project milestones, and contract data from multiple applications in a single platform
• Work with Program managers to develop trend analysis related to Transportation management, including facilities condition, financial trends, and project data
• Lead analysis, architecture, design, and development of data warehouse and BI solutions
• Work independently or as part of a team to design and develop analytics/reporting solutions using SSRS, SSAS, Tableau, PerformancePoint, and Excel/Excel Services
• Collaborate to create and enhance data structures (data marts, cubes) to facilitate decision- making
• Collaborate with client’s data warehouse/IT team to standardize reporting across a variety of contexts
• Design and develop ETL processes using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SSIS, or other related tools and technologies
• Follow standard practices, patterns, and guidelines for database deliverables including conceptual design, deployment scripts, data migration plan and performance tuning
• Use SSIS or related tools to create ETL packages and data flows, to schedule them and to organize them for on-going maintenance by the production DBA team
• Create and maintain ER diagrams for enterprise RDMS
• Participate in decisions around data warehouse architecture and, more specifically, data models and database design.
• Code complex database scripts and ETL packages that meet data flow requirements
• Work with software developers, BI analysts and report analysts to ensure compliance with database practices
• Perform peer review and approval of BI/DW Engineer Data Models and Implementations

BACKGROUND

• Experience architecting, developing and/or managing the implementation of BI solutions using Tableau and Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS / SSAS/ SSRS, using other experience with Microsoft OLAP, Hyperion, Cognos, Business Objects or other enterprise-grade tools
• Experience in participating in analysis sessions with the user community to capture and define data requirements 
• Knowledge in identifying, analyzing and translating business requirements and rules into intuitive analytical solutions, business scorecards and management dashboards
• Understanding of BI solutions: operational and analytical, relational and multi- dimensional database architectures
• Expertise in the Tableau and Microsoft BI solution offerings including SQL Server 2012/2008 R2 stack (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS), Power View, Power Pivot, Decomposition Tree, SharePoint, Excel, PerformancePoint Server
• Understanding of multidimensional database design and architecture
