We are currently looking for a Chaplain Assistant to work within our Senior Living Community at The Wesleyan. As a Chaplain Assistant at The Wesleyan, you will be an integral part of a mission and values-based organization that provides endless opportunities for career growth.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides appropriate spiritual care to the residents (and their family members), and employees, of The Wesleyan.
  • Upholds the values and beliefs of the Wesleyan Board of Trustees and serves to meet the mission of The Wesleyan
  • Displays open-mindedness regarding persons of others faiths and no-faith.
  • Displays a strong understand/or willingness to learn about issues related to Aging, Dementia, Senior Health Care, Home Health, Hospice and Grief.
  • Regularly perform religious services, in an ecumenical spirit, at all facilities and with individuals of all care levels. This will require an understanding of the various different communication levels related to Aging, Dementia and various theological frameworks.
  • Candidates must be able to write and deliver sermons within a traditional liturgical format.
  • Candidate must be able to administer/or work under the supervision of the Director of Spiritual Life in the administering of the sacrament of Holly Communion.
  • Candidate will be required to attend and participate in bi-annual memorial services and assist in relationship to Director of Spiritual Care in planning and assisting residents and their families with memorial services.
  • Hospital visitation, when assigned by Director of Spiritual Care, is required and will need to be done in a timely fashion.
  • Be able to work as a member of a Chaplaincy team to fulfill all aspects of the Wesleyan Mission.
  • Must be available for On-Call at least one week each month.
  • Position requires strong oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to document resident/client/staff interaction in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Position will require travel to surrounding area.
  • Candidate must be able to life, move, push and manipulate at least 30 lbs.
  • Candidate must be able to push and move wheel-chairs, rollators and Geri-chairs on both carpeted and tiled floors.
  • Candidate must be committed to on going processes of learning in relationship necessary areas of resident well-being.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • The Chaplain must be of good moral character and in good mental and physical condition.
  • Must be willing and able to cooperate with regulatory agencies, board members, administrators, other team leaders, fellow employees and residents.
  • Must possess leadership ability.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, enthusiasm and be able to handle residents and family members based on whatever maturity or cognitive level at which they are currently functioning.
  • Must be an ordained minister, preferably of the United Methodist Church. A minister of another denomination will be considered if the candidate does not have strong doctrinal differences from the United Methodist Church and articles of religion.
  • Valid Driver’s License
