Facility: Wellstar Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain

Job Summary: The nurse manager of the hospice in-patient facility is a Professional Registered nurse who is responsible for providing leadership and manages all clinical activities/services for Tranquility. S/he is responsibile for seeing that standards of care meet/exceed the regulatory and accreditation requirements, that financial performance is achieved and that patient/customer satisfaction goals are met. S/he is responsible for oversight of the maintenance, cleanliness and operations of the building and the equipment. S/he works with engineering, landscaping , biomedical and Dietary to ensure that the facility and the equipment meets all life safety standards. S/he supervises the EVS personnel and the dietary personnel on site. S/he is a member of the QI/PI team developing action plans and coordinating improvement activities in conjunction with other components of the Wellstar Community Hospice. S/he will directly supervise the interdisciplinary staff, manage human resources providing opportunities for staff development/training, staff recognition and participation in department workflow processes. S/he is responsible for modeling best practices, coaching staff at the bedside and participating in care planning for clients of all ages and overseeing the needs of the patients and families. As a member of the leadership team s/he participates in administrative on-call schedule. The framework for practice is steered by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing and evidence based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the WellStar Core Competencies. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual upholds the voice of the patient, department and system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: People - Participates in the hiring of qualified staff, participates in their orientation and ongoing training - Evaluates and coaches employees to ensure retention of valued staff members. - Manages productivity and schedules staff to provide quality care . - Supports employee engagement by planning for opportunities for staff input and involvement in decision making - Conducts one on one meetings with staff for coaching and mentoring, regularly participates in patient care activities by finding opportunities to model best practices. - Performs ongoing and formal semi annual reviews on all direct reports and provides quidance in performance improvement, ongoing educational opportunities and staff development. - Has oversight responsibility for the payroll time and attendance. Ensures that staff are provided withg required meal and break times. Customer Service - Hardwires customer service practices to create the delivery of world class service one patient experience at a a time. - Ensures positive working relationships with referral sources, and other hospice and Wellstar departments. - Participates in the WCH after hours on-call rotation - Manages incidents and complaints by directly initiating action, and participating in corrective action planning - Conducts regularly sceduled rounds to assess the satisfaction of the patient/family - Promotes complimentary therapies inclusion into the plan of care. Quality and Patient Safety - Ensures that policies and procedures related to infection control, NPSGs, regulatory and accreditation standards are adhered to by all staff and the department is survey ready at all times. - Participates in PI/QI committees/workgroups and provides staff the opportunity to participate - Conducts regularly scheduled rounds to assess the safety and cleanliness of the patient care environment, equipment and furnishings. - Promotes and encourages others to promote a tranquil environment Financial - Assists in the development of the budget, identifying patient related equipment and needs. - Controls staffing costs by managing schedules, hiring and recruiting to provide for minimal overtime. - Provides rapid turnover in available beds to maximize occupancy - Works with staff and management to reduce waste utilizing lean principles Successful Growth - Maintains collaborative, colleagial relationships with all referral sources. - Represents hospice at community functions and affairs as requested - Identifies opportunities to educate the community regarding hospice services and the care delivered at the in-patient facility. - Promotes positive ongoing relationships with physicians and nurse practitioners, consulting physicians and primary physicians. Required Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required and Bachelor's Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s): Certification in hospice and palliative care nursing eligible with completion within 1 Year Required Required Minimum Experience: Minimum 4 years nursing experience working with terminally ill patients. Required and Minimum 2 years of management/leadership experience Required Required Minimum Skills: Posseses emotional maturity. Posseses interpersonal skill. Demonstrates leadership and management skills. Demonstrates ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Posseses knowledge of the disease processes affecting people of all ages. Possesses knowledge of developmental characteristics (physical, psychosocial, intellectual) of people of all ages (neonates, infant, child adolescent, adult geriatric). Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrates clinical competence in hospice specific nursing care and symptom management.
