About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director to lead Enterprise Data Platforms modernization strategy and execution.
As the Enterprise Data Platforms Strategy and Execution Leader, you will be responsible for defining and executing on the Enterprise data platform strategy for Wells Fargo. The existing approach has been driven by the desire to put in proper governance and controls in a most efficient and effective way possible. We need to now shift the focus towards enabling data for the company to drive consistency (in use and understanding) greater depth of knowledge, use of data to drive analytics and an enhanced customer/client experience. This strategy will allow Wells Fargo to leverage the power of data as an asset.
In this role you will:
  • Be responsible for enterprise-wide data platform strategy and delivery across all business including technology.
  • Integration of data platform strategy into business aligned strategies.
  • Review the data organization (inclusive of the business) and the overall operating model for speed, efficiency and operational effectiveness.
  • Create and lead a strategy team working with data architecture, cloud strategy, enterprise architecture, data technology team, business data organization (DMI), corresponding technology CIOs and business leaders. Must also partner with and include in the strategy enterprise infrastructure, CTO and the program office.
  • Central execution and management of delivery within the data technology organization for the enterprise/company.
  • Partner with the Data Solutions and Services (DSS) as well as the business leadership across Wells Fargo to define and maintain interdependent roadmaps for:
    • Decommissioning of the legacy data and BI platforms.
    • Building the target state data platforms (including hybrid cloud).
    • Building the target state BI strategy and platforms.
    • Rolling out Data domains and enabling data consumption.
    • Building Common data frameworks to automate data management processes.
  • Partner with the CFO to align budget and finance with strategic roadmaps and create compelling business cases.
  • Define metrics and OKRs to monitor progress and report efficiency gains for the organization.
  • Partner with Chief Architects to define the data product architecture aligned to the data strategy.
  • Partner with the CIOs to help with organizational transformation to align to data strategy and data product architecture.
  • Provide leadership and management of teams up to 200 people if needed to support the organizational goals.
The outcome of the job will be definition of the strategy, agreement gained with impacted parties, leaders, etc., identification of measurable outcomes and ultimately execution of the strategy.
Required Qualifications, US:
  • 8 years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4 years of Management experience
  • 4 years managing and implementing large data platforms - Teradata, Hadoop, ETL, SAS
  • 4 years managing and implementing Private Cloud (Cloudera Data Platform)
  • 2 years managing and implement large data platform in Cloud (Google, Azure, or AWS)
  • Experience in financial services industry (large bank experience preferred) creating and implementing strategic roadmaps
  • Experience influencing senior CxO leadership in the company to bring in transformation by delivering on the strategic roadmaps
Desired Qualifications:
  • 8 years of experience supporting data technology organizations at a large financial institution
  • Thorough understanding of data processes and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with leading large scale and transformational technology efforts in support of data solutions that define and execute on an enterprise data strategy
  • Significant experience leading complex technology initiatives in a large and dynamic segment of financial services
  • Demonstrated vendor negotiation and partnership skills along with experience working with technology offshore vendor relationships
  • Experience managing a complex technology organization of large scale, including senior managers, managers, individual contributors and vendor resources across multiple global locations
  • Demonstrated prior experiences in effective engagement with senior executives and external regulators
  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargo's size, scale and complexity
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of technology efforts across several major lines of business and effectively partner/influence at the senior executive level
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment
  • Ability to develop technology strategy, operating model & roadmaps with clear objectives and aligned with business, enterprise and technology strategies
  • Broad experience across multiple areas of technology including one or more of architecture, infrastructure and application development with strong understanding of leading edge as well as legacy and distributed technologies to effectively manage the complex and diverse applications portfolio
  • Proven experience as a highly effective leader with credibility from demonstrating strong business and technology acumen
  • Highly effective decision-making/critical thinking/problem solving skills with a collaborative and results oriented leadership style
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with key business partners and translate complex, technical concepts so that they are clearly understood along with the ability to effectively partner and influence at the senior executive level
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and partner effectively with regulators
  • Demonstrated experience motivating and influencing groups or individuals across organizational boundaries to gain trust and confidence to make timely decisions
  • Proven experience in establishing a vision, developing the strategy to support the vision, gaining consensus across key functional leadership through effective communication, and driving action towards the vision through the effective management of goals and objectives
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) with ability to communicate at multiple levels ranging from technologists to senior managers and executive leadership
