Wells Fargo is seeking a Counsel Senior Manager to lead a team of legal professionals providing legal support to the Trust Services line of business in the areas of personal trust administration, investment management, probate, and general fiduciary law. In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a more experienced legal advisor to more experienced management of the businesses within Wells Fargo
  • Handle matters that have a significant impact on operations, strategies, or profitability
  • Manage and develop teams with moderate complexity and risk
  • Participate in the most complex legal projects
  • Apply specialty legal expertise proactively, to manage the most complex legal and regulatory issues
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions of team to meet moderate to high risk deliverables
  • Interpret and develop policies and procedures for functions with moderate complexity within scope of responsibility
  • Develop relationships with and provide guidance to more experienced leadership including executive officers on issues that may present legal, regulatory, compliance, or reputational risk to the Company
  • Collaborate with and influence all levels of professionals, including more experienced managers
  • Oversee and take an active role in the education and training of a team of attorneys
  • Engage and influence stakeholders, internal partners and peers associated with the function or affected by its outcomes
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Counsel
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
  • Provide advice and legal support on Trust issues as a product component of a broader Wealth Management business
  • Drive positive change as part of a BL&T leadership team to critically assess and if necessary drive improvements, in governance, product design, regulatory change and business initiatives
  • Support priorities for BL&T leadership, including remediation, issues management and regulatory initiatives)
  • Provide expert legal, technical and risk-based advice regarding Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (“OCC”) regulations regarding fiduciary investment management and related activity provided by the Bank on behalf of trusts and managed agency accounts
  • Interact regularly with senior WIM, Banking, Lending &Trust (BLT), and Client Relationship Group business team leaders and with BL&T Control Partners in compliance, risk, as well as other senior Legal leaders that interface with WIM (e.g., Litigation & Regulatory)
  • Lead and develop a team of attorneys and paralegals supporting day to day wealth functions related to personal trust and fiduciary matters, foster employee growth and development in substantive areas as well as build transferrable skill sets to help meet business needs and current business priorities
  • Coordinate consistent and appropriate levels of client support, collaboration, escalation, and team member development
  • Lead consistent application of and compliance with Legal Department and company policies and procedures, including Wells Fargo’s Vision and Values, and policies and procedures with respect to providing legal advice, managing outside counsel and legal expense

CA, San Francisco Pay Range: $173,300 - $359,900

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 6 years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3 years of leadership experience
  • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Trust, Estate, and Fiduciary responsibilities, including previous experience serving in a lead role on a team of legal professionals supporting substantive related business matters
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior management
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop and execute risk-focused solutions
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate, interact, and partner with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships within and across business groups at all levels of the organization
  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking and prioritization skills, including ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to motivate, communicate, delegate, and enable confidence in others
  • Ability to take an active role in the education, mentoring and training of less experienced employees
  • Business development experience including development and execution of business vision, strategies, and goals
  • Ability to make complex decisions

Job Expectations:

Pay Range

$173,300.00 - $359,900.00
