How you make a difference

In this pivotal role, you will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Vice President of Litigation to lead and execute innovative legal strategies, manage discovery responses, oversee the evaluation of panel counsel, and provide expert guidance in various litigation matters. Your profound legal acumen, strategic mindset, and adaptability will be essential in navigating complex legal challenges and fostering a culture of change and continuous process improvement within our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement cutting-edge litigation strategies, minimize risk exposure, and manage defense expenses effectively.
  • Demonstrate expertise in federal court proceedings, including Section 1983 and Monell doctrine cases, staying updated on relevant legal trends.
  • Lead panel counsel selection and performance monitoring, fostering strong relationships and proactive expense management.
  • Utilize clinical knowledge, collaborate with experts, and conduct jury verdict research to inform litigation strategies and reduce damages.
  • Drive change management initiatives to promote adaptability and continuous improvement within the legal department.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active TN bar admission (or eligible for TN In-House Counsel Registration pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 8, RPC 5.5(d)(1)).

Experience

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in litigation, with a strong emphasis on federal court proceedings and Section 1983 cases.
  • First chair trial experience in healthcare injury litigation.
  • Experience handling uncapped damages lawsuits.
