Description

The Medical Assistant/Clinical Staff Member at Well-Key is responsible to their assigned coordinator for communications regarding essential functions of their performance and during an assigned shift the provider directing care to patients in the facility. All specific HR functions, performance evaluations, employment classifications, or benefit information should be directed to the Executive Directors only.

Requirements

Duties include but are not limited to the following (reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions):

  • Perform accurate order entry into computer when requested.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of office, medical supplies and other materials.
  • Perform indirect patient care procedures.
  • Clean and stock medical supplies. 
  • Clean and stock IV and blood trays. 
  • Clean laboratory and nursing stations, sinks, medicine refrigerator and counter tops.
  • Clean and stock medicine room, DME room, and utility room. Maintain appropriate logs for inventory.
  • Stock Universal Precaution Wall Units. Replace sharps container as needed in all areas. 
  • Clean rest rooms after patient use. 
  • Maintain and clean unit equipment such as IV poles, commodes, and traction equipment, etc. 
  • Strip linens where necessary and/or exam table paper, clean bed, stretchers, and exam tables, make bed, and re-stock supplies when necessary. Perform other housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate use of crisis intervention techniques when caring for agitated or violent patients and/or patients in acute distress. Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Perform basic nursing care and treatment procedures on assigned patients as directed by the Provider, including but not limited to various treatments and assisting during procedures.
  • Obtain reports on patients and follow appropriate procedures for Provider acknowledgement and adding to patient’s medical record.
  • Communicate information related to patient care to Provider throughout the care of each patient during assigned shift.
  • Perform skills which include observation and documentation of vital signs, medical history, current medications, current allergies and any other relevant information regarding patient’s chief complaint or chronic conditions.
  • Document basic patient care and procedures on assigned patients utilizing appropriate forms and documentation techniques following policies and procedures for the EMR system.
  • Perform proper patient transfer techniques. 
  • Apply oxygen via nasal cannula, as directed by the Provider. 
  • Follow established cardiopulmonary services' procedure to obtain 12 lead EKG, as directed by the Provider where applicable.
  • Supervise and monitor patients in regards to patient safety, following applicable patient care policy procedures and standards (e.g. observe patients following IM injections for first time medications for fifteen (15) minutes).
  • Perform simple sterile dressing changes at the direction of the Provider.
  • Draw venous or capillary blood specimens from patients as directed by the Provider.
  • Follow CLIA and Well-Key procedures for patient identification and labeling of specimens.
  • Communicate completion of specimen collection to Provider and document as appropriate in EMR.
  • Process specimens in laboratory as trained through staff CLIA training.
  • Answer patient calls/voicemails and respond to requests/needs as appropriate.
  • Communicate information to patients regarding procedures being, or to be, performed as directed by the provider.
  • Assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.
  • Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents so follow-up and/or prevention can occur.
  • Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service.
  • Attend required Team Meetings and/or all annual in-service programs and/or training classes.

Work Environment

This job will require exposure to patient elements. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must frequently walk or stand for extended time periods during the shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Employees that are classified as full-time will find their schedule to be rotational, and core hours of work are Sunday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. as the rotation schedule necessitates. Employee must maintain seven day availability to be classified as full-time employee. 

Employees that are classified as part-time will find their schedule to be rotational, and core hours of work are Sunday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. as the rotation schedule necessitates. Employee must have a minimum of three days of availability every seven day week to be eligible for part-time classification. Part-time employees are not guaranteed shifts and availability may dictate the number of shifts a part-time employee is scheduled for in a seven day period.

Travel

Occasional travel is expected for this position based on business operational need.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Medical Assistant certification or comparable job experience.

CPR certification.

Preferred Education and Experience

Urgent care industry experience.
