Job Title: ############# Emergency Medical Technician To Paramedic# Department: ######## Emergency Medical Services######### Reports To:########## Emergency Medical Services Manager/Supervisor Approved Date:# # #6/23 SUMMARY:# Responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured; responds to emergency and routine transfers between hospitals and nursing home. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Responds to emergency and nonemergency calls within the primary service area. Will provide security services as requested. #Utilizes the ambulance to arrive at the address or location given in a safe and efficient manner. Radios the dispatcher for additional assistance or special rescue service if needed. Complies with regulations on handling of the deceased, notifies authorities, and arranges for the protection of property and evidence at the scene. Determines the nature and extent of illness or injury and prioritizes care. Transports patients to the appropriate medical facility. Identifies diagnostic signs and radios patient and/or special assistance information to the receiving medical facility as needed. Observe, record, and report to the physician, the patient#s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant events. Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response. Informs supervisor of ambulance repairs and maintenance needed. Supports the policies and procedures of the hospital and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.# Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid driver#s license.# Current State of Minnesota Emergency Medical Technician Certification and current BLS certification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.# The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.# The employee is occasionally required to sit.# The employee must regularly lift, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.# Required to carry patients up and down stairways with limited help.# Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.# Prolonged sitting in ambulance while on transfers.# Required to perform duties in ambulance while ambulance is transporting.# (Sense of balance is very important.) The potential of contact with communicable disease.# Performs a Class I job as classified by OSHA and may be exposed to Class I hazards.### Tuition Advancement program:# CONDITIONS Employer will pay Paramedic Program tuition for eligible EMTS up to the diploma certification through St. Cloud Technical and Community College. Employee must have no disciplinary action within the last year to be eligible to participate in this program. The amount of advancement includes tuition and fees ($229.11 per credit) for 48 credit diploma program. Books, supplies and materials are not included in the allotment.# Funding received via grants and/or scholarships will be deducted from the amount of the advancement that would be paid by employer for the benefit of the participating employee. Employee is required to submit FAFSA application and disclose awarded grants and scholarships to the employer prior to tuition advancement.# If for any reason the course is not completed, or if it is not completed successfully with a passing grade (C or better), the employee is subject to payback tuition contributions as laid out in section 7 of procedure. Courses are to be attended on non-work time and without compensation from Welia Health for such time which the employee is voluntarily choosing to spend. If the employee leaves employment, or reduces their FTE to an ineligible status, prior to fulfillment of three-year commitment, the advancement will be refunded to the employer by the employee, and the employer shall make deductions from employee#s payroll checks unless and until such refund has been fully made.# To that end, a condition of eligibility for participation in the program is the employee#s signature of the attached Welia Health EMT to Paramedic Tuition Advancement application/agreement. APPENDIX D PROCEDURE Employees registering for a diploma program must contact and receive written approval from Human Resources prior to registering for courses.# All applications will be reviewed by the Senior Team for approval. Upon successful completion of the education requirements and obtaining licensure as a Paramedic, the Employee will be hired into a current open Paramedic FTE. Employee will work a minimum of 0.6 FTE hours per pay period (as an EMT) throughout the duration of the program to qualify for the tuition advancement. Employee is eligible for full time benefits under this program if they maintain all program qualifications. Positions are considered #float#, non-bid eligible scheduled.# Employees will be scheduled shifts based on departmental needs. Once employee receives approval, they must complete the application for Paramedic program tuition advancement at least thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of the course (or as soon as possible before the course begins) and submit the completed form to Human Resources.# Employees are required to fill out a form one time after acceptance into the program. Human Resources will maintain records for the employee#s file and make a notation regarding the successful completion of the course.# If the course is not completed or is completed with a failing grade, tuition advancement for future course work will be denied.# Employee must maintain a #C# average or greater (or equivalent).# The advancement will be paid directly to the school at the beginning of each semester. The employee will submit grades at the end of semester to qualify for additional tuition advancement. Any disqualification of the program or termination in employment, the employee will be required to pay back tuition contributions made on their behalf by Welia Health. Federal, State, and local income tax will be applied to tuition reimbursement as required by law.# Question should be directed to the Human Resources Department. Welia Health does not guarantee admission to any program. To qualify an employee must not have had any disciplinary action within the last year. Any disciplinary action during the agreement could disqualify the employee from continued support.# The payback agreement is 3 (three) years of service to Welia Health as a Paramedic, working a minimum of 0.9 FTE. Employee must be accepted into the program within 6 months of award. Employee will obtain their National Registry EMT-P certification within three months of completing a program. EMT pilot program candidate shall be allowed to continue to request open medic shifts during this period.# Payment will be allocated by semester in lump sum format directly to the school the employee is attending. EMT Pilot program participant shall be allowed to request open medic shifts while actively enrolled in the program without seven-day non-discipline wait; up to FTE.# All subsequent requests shall fall under LOA filling of open shifts as defined in current CBA. Employee in this pilot program will submit shifts prior to the 15th of each month at 18:00.# Employees in this program will continue to meet FTE requirements. Open Paramedic shifts will be granted to paramedics, FTE and casual prior to being filled to EMTs regardless of overtime status.# #
