Middle School Industrial Arts (CTE) 
Terms of employment Full-time, 187 days. Salary is based on education and experience and will be prorated per our Certified Salary Schedule not to exceed letter I ($45,000-$76,601). The District provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance. The District provides three medical plans for which it pays the full premium for employees, and a fourth option is a buy-up plan for which the district pays the majority of the premium. In addition, the District pays the full employee premium for dental insurance and life insurance. The District contributes to PERA on each employee's behalf and offers additional retirement savings options as well as optional supplemental insurance. Employees also receive paid time off. Worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance are provided in accordance with State law.
Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, plans, organizes and presents instruction and instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development for career and technical education. Provide classroom learning experiences to students through innovative teaching methodologies. Supervise and coordinate laboratory assignments and field work. Maintain student academic records including their grades and performances. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in future career endeavors.
Essential Functions
  • Conduct an instructional program that educates students about career pathways in construction.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Enhance youth leadership and Skills USA as an integral part of instruction. Additional compensation will be provided according to the extra duty salary schedule.
  • Deliver training to learners in Construction to cover both the industry’ needs and preparing students to earn recognized industry certifications.
  • Induct learners to the workshop/area of work and train them in aspects such as Health and Safety, Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH), machinery and tools usage.
  • Initiate, facilitate and moderate classroom discussions.
  • Create lesson plans that align with school policy for all courses offered.
  • Supervise and maintain the school laboratory used for students’ supervised construction experiences.
  • Help facilitate a program advisory board made of local business and community professionals, teachers, students, and district leadership.
  • Prepare and submit Skills USA rosters, entries, registrations, etc. promptly and keep an accurate file copy of all records and reports.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Maintain familiarity with district and Colorado State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students’ education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct adheres to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and safe learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
Additional Duties Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Confidential Information
  • Staff members shall not access, receive, transmit or retransmit material regarding students, parents/guardians or district employees that is protected by confidentiality
    laws.
  • If material is not legally protected but is of a confidential or sensitive nature, great care shall be taken to ensure that only those with a “need to know” are allowed access to
    the material. Staff members shall handle all employee, student, and district records in
    accordance with applicable district policies.
  • Staff members who intentionally disclose student records, other confidential student information and/or district information may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Equipment
  • Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
  • Use table saws, radial arm saws, and drill presses, hammers, saws, planers, ladders, tape measures, levels, etc.
Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Must physically be able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including table saws, radial arm saws, and drill presses, hammers, saws, planers, ladders, tape measures, levels, etc.
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Requires ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding, and/or in tight spaces.
  • Physical demand requirements are for Heavy Work.
Qualifications Profile Certification/License
  • Holds or has the ability to obtain Colorado Department of Education Secondary CTE Architecture and Construction Credential 
Education
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment is preferred.
Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Additional Information All new hires will be probationary. Interviews will be conducted late May.
